Love love love this book. I especially love the audiobook, narrated by Wil Wheaton. It has the perfect mix of adventure, humor, well-developed interpersonal relationships, good vs evil, and a massive quest. Plus, all the amazing 80s pop culture!

I experienced this via audiobook. This was a rare occurrence where the narrator Wil Wheaton immediately made this book & experience more engaging than I could have possibly imagined. I began listening to this on a flight home the other night & couldn’t stop listening. Be still my geeky heart. I didn’t understand most of the pop references nevertheless that was how engaging & original the plot & narrator was. I now want Wil Wheaton to read me all my books

I loved how nostalgic the book made me. I appreciated the song references, because it gave me a song to go along with my imagination. I would have loved if the characters had spent a little more time together. I feel like that would have ruined the point of the book, though. I almost feel like some things were a bit rushed, but I loved the book overall. I’m a sucker for 80s music, movies, games, etc. It is always nice to think of future kids appreciating pop culture from the past. I loved the overall message, presented so clearly at the end.

I don't usually review books, but damn this story was fun!! Indiana Jones meets War Games with hints of The Matrix and Revenge of the Nerds. It could almost be a game of Star Fox in some way. Read this high paced adventure.

I listened to the audiobook version of this, and I’m not going to do a detailed review. I’ll just say that I understand why some people love this book. I’m not one of those people, but I appreciate the book for what it is, and that’s why I’ll give it 3 stars instead of 2.

I’ve had this on my TBR list for YEARS. Like, I remember seeing it at the bookstore when it first came out and I wanted to read it, but then always found something that was more up my alley so I never got around to reading this book.

Well I finally “consumed” the book (audio) and I really enjoyed it.

This is a fun, coming-of-age tale that takes place in the not too distant future. Reading this in 2024 is crazy because I can see some of this happening in just 10 years or less. I felt at home in this story and related to the protagonists a lot. The pop culture references are really fun and the dialogue is entertaining.

A major criticism I had at first was that it took a while for the plot to really get started, but once it did and you got more into the story, the slow pace was understandable. There’s a lot of backstory/context given in the beginning and it almost made me give up on it. Don’t give up on it!
