Ugh. This was such a sweet story! A Fae just writes the most beautifully descriptive prose ever.

Ellis is the town outcast. He keeps to himself with his little home and his vegetable garden at the edge of the woods, along with his best fur baby, Rotho. Of course he grew up with the stories of the “Monster In The Woods” and the town’s annual “sacrifice”. But as far as he’s concerned, it’s just that. A fairytale.

Until the day he decides to cut through the woods on his walk home from town and happens upon his “fairytale” in the flesh.

Omg. Styx is the cutest giant monster EVER

Great Story!

This was such a great story!

Ellis has felt like an outcast by his town for living a simple life (among other things) and is uncomfortable around others’ company.

He befriends the ‘monster’ in the woods that everyone believes is a myth but they devote a ‘sacrifice’ to every year. Big deal for a myth, but traditions die hard.

Ellis and Styx are so adorable together. Ellis feels more seen by Styx than anyone else he’s ever encountered and Styx (by context and Ellis’ narration) has been lonely and looking for companionship. They are perfect for each other.

I would have loved to see what happened after Ellis won as sacrifice, but it’s fade to black. My imagination is not that good!

I enjoyed this but it feels unfinished! What happens after the end?!
