DNF ☹️ I never thought the romance/relationship part of a series would make me dislike it

I liked the first book better but this one was still fun and interesting. I'm curious how the story is going to end and excited to read book 3.

I liked that I didn't have to read about characters traveling from one location to another. It was a bit jarring to have a chapter start several weeks and hundreds of miles away from the end of the previous chapter, but I can get past that if it means I don't have to read boring descriptions of characters traveling.

I loved that Griffen didn't treat Cat any different when he thought she was pregnant. I'm tired of books that treat pregnant characters like fragile china dolls.

The cover of this book is stunning beautiful. It's designed in warm colours and even, if it's style is mostly simple, the compass is absolutely an eyecatcher! I love it!!

In 'Breath Of Fire' the author could win me all over again with her convincing, thrilling and emotional writing style. She also has a great sense of humour and made me giggle in various scenes.

~ Kato looks ill. "I... It... Me..." He stares at the massive snake. "Big." ~

The author also writes really detailed. I could imagine every scenery and every character perfectly fine. Even every single colour!

I like the direction in which the story line is headed, even if the romance part was a bit to heavy for my taste in the beginning of book two. Though after finishing 'Breath Of Fire' I most definitely understand the necessity of the detailed love story and wouldn't change a thing.

The fantasy part of the story convinced me nonetheless. Amanda Bouchet combines various stunning creatures throughout the story. All of which are playing a very important part for the outcome of the main characters' fates as well as for the breathtaking end of this book.

The reader meets many of the amazing characters from 'A Promise Of Fire' again in book two but there are also a couple of new people coming along.

Of course there are Cat and Griffin as they are the main characters. I love the fact of how courageous, strong and caring they are. Both, Cat as well as Griffin, would do everything for the people they love. Even if it means their own death.

Flynn, Carver and Kato are the loyal companions of Cat and Griffin. All three of them would protect them with their lifes and stand proudly by their sides. All of them are great warriors but even more important is that they are family.

And then there are Jocasta and Kaia. We heard about them a little bit in book one but this time they are playing a way more important role then one would think in the first place. Sometimes in the beginning they might come across as spoiled little princesses. But believe me when I'm saying, that there is much more hidden inside them then being a part of a ruling family.

'Breath Of Fire' is most definitely a highlight for me again. I can absolutely recommend to read this series to everyone who enjoys the story of a strong-headed, courageous and loving heroine combined with a great part of fantasy and romance. I'm most certainly looking forward to read 'Heart Of Fire' - book #3 in the 'The Kingmaker Chronicles'.

Once again Amanda Bouchet took me on an epic fantasy journey with Breath of Fire

This book was jammed packed full of one adventure after another. Loaded with Greek mythology, fighting, love, magic and monsters. I think Amanda out did herself with this one. I liked it better than the first (and yes, you have to read Promise of Fire first). I can feel the hard work, and great editing in this author's novel. I can totally respect that. I'd rather wait a year or two for a great novel than have something thrown out there half ass done for the sake of readers who like popping books like candy.

Thank you Amanda Bouchet for being the epic storyteller you are. Take your time getting the last book out! We need just right.

Synopsis:
SHE'S DESTINED TO DESTROY THE WORLD...
BUT NOT IF SHE CAN HELP IT

"Cat" Catalia Fisa has been running from her destiny since she could crawl. But now, her newfound loved ones are caught between the shadow of Cat's tortured past and the threat of her world-shattering future. So what's a warrior queen to do when she knows it's her fate to be the harbinger of doom? Everything in her power.

Griffin knows Cat is destined to change the world―for the better. As the realms are descending into all-out war, Cat and Griffin risk sacrificing everything they've fought for. Gods willing, they will emerge side-by-side in the heart of their future kingdom...or die trying.

I really enjoyed this! It’s a solid fantasy romance. My favorite part was getting to know this world more. Cat, Griffin and the Beta Team travel all over the realm on epic adventures. As a result the reader gets a more in depth look at Thalyria…how it’s made up, it’s history, it’s people. Bouchet wove together a well developed, complex world steeped in mythology and magic and I loved it!

I LOVED the Beta team! They are more like a family than anything else and I just love their friendship, loyalty and commitment to each other and their cause. We got to peel back some layers on all of them and I loved that! Even the minor characters were interesting and intriguing.

The pacing was fast and the storyline was packed with adrenaline, action, drama, emotion, SHIPS!! All of it!
“Even in sleep he’s not letting me go.” *sigh :) *
While I really enjoyed the pacing, and the storyline had me quickly turning pages, it did kind of fall in to somewhat of a predictable pattern and cycle of events.

SpoilerThe initial blow out fight also left a bad taste in my mouth. The way it happened, things that were done during…and then the way it wrapped up was too quick and clean for me.
(That may be slightly spoilery, not sure so I hid it just to be safe.) If the alpha, possessive, overbearing male is a complete turn off for you then this series is probably not for you. BUT if you don’t mind that and enjoy action, and adventure, and steaminess then this right up your ally!

Overall I really enjoyed reading it and can’t wait for the next one!!

I received an advanced digital copy of this title from Netgalley. This is no way shapes my opinion of the book. Thank you Sourcebooks Casablanca and Netgalley for the advanced copy!
