Absolutely atrocious story of a one-dimensional heroine and her one-dimensional exploits. You don't really understand her motives, because everything she does seems like a disingenuous ploy by the author to make us have less regard for her. I tried to read it as part of being friendly in the office, but will have to break it to my colleague--i couldn't finish it.

Very light and shallow read, in the vein of "The Nanny Diaries," about a NYC rich woman who loses high-powered job and husband in one day and decides to become a consultant advising parents on how to get their tots into the city's finest private schools. Funny and entertaining, but not very deep!

I really enjoyed this book. I know, the main character is not always likable, she's flawed, but honestly that's why you kind of like her. I think the story is more fiction than "tell-all" but it was fun and I honestly laughed out loud at more parts than not (I mean really, wouldn't you have mixed feelings about your boss who fired you getting his face bitten off by an aligator?).
Cute, fun, fluffy read!

Wow, loved the casual & ongoing racism lol. This could have been so so good, and yet...

Fiction-imitating-life tale of the trials and travails of applying to exclusive pre-school.

Writing this now in Feb 2019, I can't remember much about The Ivy Chronicals. I think I read it on the plane/on the beach one summer (?5ish years ago) - possibly around / shortly after reading the secret life of a slumy Mummy. I think I enjoyed it at the time, and liked the strong woma. But it hasn't stayed with me.

It was...okay.

I really wanted to like this book. I'm a sucker for books about private and/or boarding schools - actually, most schools - and, having done a fair amount of non-fiction reading on the subject, I wanted to see how a fiction author treated it.

Unfortunately, I had trouble sympathising with the main character. Yes, she has some tough breaks, but frankly, I've read enough books about wealthy characters falling on hard times that I was unimpressed. I'm glad I read this (though I doubt I'll be re-reading it), but between the flat characters and the predictable plot I was hardly wowed.

It's not going to win any awards, but it's a light easy read. Uf you liked Nanny Diaries, you'll like this. 2 Page chapters, just what you need for summer.
