Refreshing to read a book about time travel that isn’t about saving the world! I would tag this as sci-fi too even though it’s more so about finding who you are and what you’re meant to be in life. I got 13 Going on 30 vibes from this!

The author’s note reads: “I hope that you enjoyed this book and that it made you cry.” Well, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I absolutely sobbed my way through Part 6.

This Time Tomorrow is a story of love, loss, friendship, and finding yourself. It’s about what we would do if we only had more time and perspective. Main character Alice is about to turn 40, when she is magically transformed back to her 16th birthday. She needs to decide if she can make adjustments to her past, given what her future self knows.

I do love a good time travelling story. The way the time travel works in this is a unique twist. I really loved and related a lot to Alice. Despite being younger than her, I feel a lot of the same struggles she talks about- feeling like you’re running out of time, wanting to take your life in a completely new direction, watching your life pass you by. The other characters are equally charming and likable. Alice’s relationship with her father is so beautiful and special. I thought a few parts were a little bit slow, but it all comes together really nicely.

“Any story could be a comedy or a tragedy, depending on where you ended it. That was the magic, how the same story could be
told an infinite number of ways.“

Overall, it’s simultaneously heartwarming and heartbreaking. Would absolutely recommend!

A heartwarming and heartbreaking story of a woman who accidentally travels back in time on her 40th birthday to the day she turned 16. In an attempt to save her father from facing a crippling illness later in life, she desperately searches for the "right way" to re-live her 16th birthday.

I loved that this book 1. featured a non-extraordinary main character and 2. focused on the relationship between an adult daughter and her father. It was refreshing to see a narrator who isn't perfect, has a relatively average life, and still finds small things to appreciate in her everyday. It also explored a unique and wholesome relationship of a daughter and single father, and ultimately placed this relationship over any friendships or romantic relationships in the book. I could feel the emotions she was experiencing as she re-lived her life as her teenage self and was able to gain a new appreciation for all the moments she shared with her dad, especially in moments where she was initially blinded by teenage angst. Overall very well-written and emotional, and knowing that the book was based on the author's relationship with her father makes it even better.

I also really enjoyed that she chose not to stay in the "perfect" life about halfway through the book. The fact that she realized her father was still sick in her ideal reality and chose to continue to find a way to spend more time with him was a testament to the strength of their bond and their love for each other.

I wasn't so sure about the first half of the book, but once I got to about 60%, it got really good. The nostalgia and beauty and appreciation of her father and their simple, ordinary days was all so lovely. I really loved the thoughts about growing up alongside your parents and about childhood memories being the parents' favorite memories, too. I really appreciated that this was a love story about family and friends and self, yet I liked the hint of full-circle romantic love at the end. It was satisfying without taking away from the depth of the novel.

It was reflective and made me contemplate the bigger picture in life.

I think this quote truly encompasses the book “Any story could be a comedy, or a tragedy, depending on where you ended it. That was the magic, how the same story could be told an infinite number of ways.”

A beautiful contemporary with accessible time-travel elements. Centers mainly on a woman in her 40’s in NYC, navigating her life and the choices she’s made and what life she wants to live.
Those that liked midnight library will like this, but I think this one is better.
