There were a lot of dark parts. This wasn’t a fluffy romance from Nora Roberts that I had been accustomed to reading in college. This had plenty of things that need trigger warnings:
abduction, rape, murder, abuse, indoctrination, torture, animal abuse
. It also had plenty of facets that I enjoy: horses, ranches, good strong lead characters with good communication skills. Not a super big “trope” heavy book in the way I’ve been reading them. Enjoyable characters, just not light and fluffy, it took me quite a while to get through and my heart is not lighter after the fact.

Alice's tragic story was told with a lot of sensitivity and compassion. Although, I suspected the plot twist in the emd from the very beginning and was only one time slightly deterred from it. The connection between the biblical names was just to obvious to go unnoticed.
