Thank you Edelweiss and Berkley for an eARC of Happy Medium!

The plot of this one felt loosely tied together. I was extremely disappointed by the ending.
SpoilerEverette lying about the curse timeline was very stupid, it negated almost everything up until that point. And another thing that mad no sense. Why couldn't Everette use his ghost abilities on Charlie earlier! It would have saved us a whole month of conflict!
I had a hard time connecting to the characters, especially Gretchen. It's kinda difficult to root for a character who's con person and knowingly takes advantage of people. She had some serious daddy issues and it doesn't get resolved. Also, there were points when Charlie was mean to her and called her names. And this girl just completely brushes it off. Like I would have left that farm and his cursed ass so quickly. But I can't totally blame him cause Gretchen sucks. Everette the ghost was funny at first but he got old quickly since he turned out to be a perv.

I highly recommend her other book, Mrs. Nash's Ashes cause at least that book has good characters and heart. Overall, the characters in this book were awful and I'm so glad I'll never have to read about them again. Good riddance!

3.5 stars rounded up. I had extremely high expectations for Happy Medium because of just how much I loved Mrs. Nash’s Ashes. Adler’s sophomore album doesn’t disappoint, but I didn’t relate to it in the way that I did MNA. I wasn’t really strongly connected to Gretchen, Charlie or Everett. Again, fun characters and great story but one I didn’t find myself getting lost in. I think that’s because it’s not like every other romance and that’s a good thing.

The story was fun and a great read for spooky season (I’m lucky it was an ARC!). I was very busy and got COVID while reading it, so it took me a lot longer than reading usually does.

Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you so much to everyone at Berkley Publishing and Net Galley for my e-ARC! I'm so grateful for the chance to read anything Sarah Adler.

Now, onto my honest — although, considering how much I loved Mrs' Nash's Ashes, a little biased — review:

Look, it's Sarah Adler.

You had me at "the author of Mrs' Nash's Ashes.

BUT

My gosh, was I kicking my feet and giggling with this book.

If you loved Mrs' Nash's as much as I did, then trust me. You'll love Everett, Charlie, and yes, even our con-woman Gretchen, so much by the end of this that you'll be excited to start it over again.

I ain't afraid of no goats, Sarah.

But I am afraid of how much I'm gonna be talking about this book to anyone who will listen, come April 2024.

No really enemies to lovers, rather dislike to lovers at least from the hero’ side.

Anyway, book 1 was much better than this. It was dragging and at times the writing made me yawn too

Ending: HEA
