There were some parts of the book that made me think, I probably wouldn’t go as far as saying inspired me but close. I didn’t like the repeated talk of the ejaculation of her fathers spirit into her though.

I really did not get this book. The whole middle chunk, in the leaf, my brain kept turning off as I read. Maybe because I've never experienced grief before? I just couldn't follow.
I thought I would like philosophical ramblings about life and existing but I found this book hard to grasp and couldn't really land on a reason why it was worth reading.
I really liked reading about Mira and Annie though, I found that dynamic really relatable.

Moderate: Mental illness and Schizophrenia/Psychosis
- there are no official or explicit themes of either mental illness or psychosis in the book, however much of the novel is the narrator processing and reflecting on their deep grief, and for a large (very metaphorical) chunk of the book they are very detached from reality in a dissociative way that some do after experiencing trauma — I wanted to give a paranoia/delusions content warning for that portion of the book that it dips in and out of reality and can be quite disorientating. - other than that, the way the author deals with things that may qualify for one psychiatric diagnosis or another, is very holistic and de-pathologising/de-stigmatising as it is framed as part of the human experience for many people. No ableism or stigma applied by author.itsheyfay's review against another edition

A good, poetic meditation on what it means to be human and wrestle with grief, love, and art. At times the author seemed to be trying too hard to be pithy (I really could have done without all the references to ejaculate, but hey, you do you, Sheila Heti), but it was a solid and bittersweet read.
