Woof. At least there was a somewhat interesting B plot (spies! who do….nothing). The romance didn’t do it for me. Way too much touching early on. The plot seriously lacked tension and the banter was uninspiring. Even the smut was boring.

Three independent women coming to London from the country, two of them young widows with children, get entangled with a gentleman trying to recover a stolen item from the British secret intelligence. I liked how the main female character held on to herself.

Set in Regency era London, after inheriting a townhouse in Cavendish Square, Lady Cornelia Dagenham and her friends decide to take part in the Season.
Harry, Viscount Bonham, mistakes Cornelia for a servant, making retreeving a code more difficult

This book was a bit hard for me to get into in the beginning, but as I continued reading, it picked up speed. Bonham, was my favorite character. My second favorite character is the butler Morecombe. The dogs I believe are Chihuahuas. There could have be more details and drama with the mystery, but maybe the author will provide more excitement in the next book.

I cannot decide just how I feel about this book. I struggled to finish the novel, but I felt too invested and interested to give up and yet bored at the same time. I rather like the women in the book for the unconventional attitudes toward life and society -- there are lots of little risque things going on. The OTP was sort of odd, though. I like both people, I like them together, and yet I'm just not sure I cared about a) the mystery going on or b) the fact that they were going to end up together. Such a mixed feeling. I'll try the next book simply because I still like the other two women and I'm not sure the problem was me or the book.

The story was a little too long, everything could have been solved many page before it actually did, and honestly the characters started to annoy me, especially Harry. For a while it was entertaining, then I just wanted to finish it bc I was already halfway through.

Cornelia Dagenham, a widow with two small children, moves into a dilapidated old house in fashionable Cavendish Square with two of her friends. The mysterious Viscount Bonham soon shows up at their door, first with an offer to buy the crumbling home, and later to continue verbally sparing with Cornelia. What Viscount Bonham is really after is a thimble, engraved with war secrets, that was hidden in the house. But as tensions between Bonham and Cornelia grow, Bonham's mission is jeopardized by his passion for Cornelia.

Cute, light, and sexy, Jane Feather delivers a delicious little Regency romance in this first installment of a new trilogy.

21/11 - Really sweet, mostly innocent romance. The romance itself is not particularly steamy, the heroine is a countrified widow with 2 young children who comes to London to chaperone a similarily aged friend while she views a newly inherited house. The hero works for the war office, mostly dealing with spies and codes; he's strong and muscular and supposedly good in a fight, but we've yet to see him have to exert any real energy in that way. Everything is pretty tame, the bad guys (the French and Russian spies who are on the opposite side to Harry) aren't very bad, Harry and Cornelia (the hero and heroine) aren't very sexy (except supposedly, to each other), but despite that I am enjoying this light-hearted story. There's nothing to offend or upset anyone's sensibilities, normal sex (what's normal, well, if you're a romance fan, you'll know what I mean) and no real violence.
