i was assigned to read this in highschool by a very cool english teacher and while it was unlike anything I'd ever encountered before and therefore the plot was a little hard for me to follow at the time, the beauty of it has always stuck with me. gotta reread it one day

reread: Alright yeah this shit is perfect. love how he reached a point where he was just like alright let me write something more accessible, classic coming of age story. but he made it just as complex and layered as the American story itself. could hardly put this one down fr i would stay up and late and wake up early just to read this that's how good it is

I just didn't like this. I see what McCarthy is doing by employing the mythos of the wild west cowboy whatever, but the characters are incredibly distant. Lots of plot stuff is just kind of ridiculous. Great prose, though. Always clear and very intense.

Really good book. Chapter three reminded me of the shawshank redemption. It's definitely the climax of the novel.
