I didn't feel the emotional connection between any of the couples in this book. Although the Cinderella angle and class differences were interesting, and I liked some of the side characters, ultimately there was too much focus on the insta-lust sensations, which I suppose is fitting for a book focused on food and with a title like Delicious . Might be your cup of tea!

Accomplishes the extraordinarily tricky thing in a romance: getting the reader to root for a couple to break up

This one was…confusing. We kept going back and forth in time, and for the first 300 pages, the two main leads don’t see each other face to face. There was some hot scenes in this book, but there’s also some Queer baiting, which I wasn’t a huge fan of.

#1 in series (I read part 2 of the series in January 2023. )
Will I read other installments? Probably Not Maybe Definitely There are only two parts to this series and it was completed 10+ years ago, so it's done.
Comparison to others in series: Not as good About the same Better It was a quaint story with a little spice, but nothing very special. In the end, everyone found happiness.
Ms. Thomas' Lady Sherlock series is much better, but those are mysteries, not romances.
I only had three days to read this before it was due back at Hoopla, so I listened at 1.3 speed.
The narrator was Virginia Leishman. Good job.
Source: Hoopla
The cover of this book was mild. Nothing outrageous.

The descriptions of food in this book were remarkable! At first when I started reading the timelines confused me, but I soon caught on. The Dowager Countess's actions were far fetched at the best of times, but I enjoy a happy ending so it didn't bother me too badly.

Reading this book, it’s clear how much Thomas has grown as a writer.

I think there are two reasons why I liked Delicious.

First: Because it really is delicious. There is a lot of food mentioned, which is definitely a plus for someone like me who absolutely adores food. I'm not kidding, sometimes it was like I could feel and smell the food Verity was making. It made me hungry with every page, which is kind of weird I know.

Second: Another thing I love are fairytales. It's something I can't deny and I know it makes me look like I'm ten years younger but I can't help it. I fricking love fairytales . And Delicious is a remake of one - of Cinderella. I saw a lot of movies which are a modern version of Cinderella, but never have I read a book that would put so much details and passion of remaking one. It was the best remake of Cinderella I've ever seen.

And of course, as Cinderella, even Verity Durant gets a happily ever after.

And it is just awesome.

I love Sherry Thomas, but this one was not one of her best. I found the conflict kind of silly & I felt like the resolution was really rushed. But I'll read anything she publishes so I'm glad I read it.
