I really enjoyed this book. While it definitely isn’t perfect, I was in for the ride when I began reading it and thought the way the story of generational trauma and reliving past stories was interesting. I am very moved by this story and while I don’t usually cry when I read, this book makes me want to. I’d recommend it.

I really really loved this book. Totally a summer read. Very emotional heart breaking and heart warming at the same time

It started off quite strong but got so sluggish in the second half. I just couldn’t muster the energy to care about Alice’s plight. It was so text book & formulaic & I found nothing new in the writing. There’s a particular brand of girlish whimsy in here that just wasn’t for me.

Beautiful cover though, so that counts for something right?

Long form review being published soon.

The story was engaging with interesting characters and floral details. It appeared that we were going to witness the main character finding her personal courage and strength but her actions of running rather than fighting kept her in a submissive role. I was sorry she didn’t show a bit more grit. A sequel would perhaps develop the plot line initiated at the end of the book about her writing fellowship and moving forward.
