A very enjoyable short story that gives the back story on how Evan got his start helping the truly desperate and deserving. I have previously read Orphan X and reading this reminded me of how much I enjoy the style in which this is written and made me more anxious to read The Nowhere Man.

Only a sample, but it's piqued my interest and urge to try out more of the Orphan X series

A fun short story. Evan Smoak is in Palo Alto area and rescues a woman from an abusive bad boy Silicon Valley millionaire boyfriend.
The book is about 18 pages long. The rest is an extended excerpt of Orphan X #2; The Nowhere Man.

Very short story about Evan Smoak's first foray into being The Nowhere Man. I do love Orphan X stories, even though I never thought I'd like books like this. But as over the top Evan and the bad guys can be, I have a great time reading them. This tiny tale was no different.

This exciting novella tells us how Evan became a part of the program with his first outing as The Nowhere Man. Evan meets a woman in a coffee shop and can sense she is in danger. Evan sets out to rescue her from her circumstances. Albeit brief, for those that were reading this series as it was being published had a nice, quick story to tie them over until the next book in the series was released.

This was a short story so not fair to judge it based on typical criteria. As a sampler of the orphan x character, I think it fails to satisfy anyone. Readers of the series will merely recognize someone and a personality they already know. New readers might not get enough to really entice them. Worth trying but since I read the series, I won’t likely try another short story.
