This is one of those books I think everyone should read. It made me so angry. I did not grow up with social media. It can do so much harm in the wrong hands. It is not an acceptable solution to tell young women to be constantly on guard and besieged. It is not guaranteed to prevent them being targeted anyway. We need ways to stop toxic people using the internet, or any other means to harm people. Violence against women and so called people thinking it is fun to ruin people's lives. It is such an important topic. I totally agree the way to react is to be angry, as is proportionate, and to make them pay.

Because I think I couldn't interpret enough if I write my review in english, so here's my review in bahasa.
Kinda contains spoiler⚠️

"What happened to you matters."

This is the first non-fiction book I've finished this year, and it's definitely a five-star read. I chose this book at random from BBW (I recommend it; go get it the next time it's on sale!) And what a read it was.

Harassment, stalking, bullying, revenge and non-consensual porn, sextortion, abuse, trolls, defamation, and every other imaginable (and unimaginable) form of violence, both offline and online. It has happened, it is happening, and it will happen again. Every single day. All around us. This book recounts the fights, how we won and how we lost. It is also the author's memoir about how the law failed her and pushed her to become the lawyer she needed at the time. Someone who understands the fights. It is painful, it is sad, it is infuriating, but I also see glimmers of hope there, of what we can do to help the fight. First thing to do: pay attention, and listen.

Check in on your friends and family on a regular basis. Trust the victims. Fight with them.

"I'd asked this judge to protect me from having my privacy violated. He'd responded by letting me know that my ex had a constitutional right to express himself by exposing my naked body to the world."

It's stunning to read about all these people (mostly women) who have been abused, shamed, and extorted and the legal system that seems set up to protect the perpetrators. I didn't really appreciate Goldberg's writing style, but the message is so, so important.

This book is really helpful for non-lawyers to understand why certain types of speech are protected. It provided succinct explanations on how our courts work and what it takes to get justice for victims.

My issue is that this book seems a bit “early” for the movement. At least two major pieces of legislation are still pending so the book is left unresolved. I also didn’t care for the tone of the writing either. I’m not sure who made that choice, the author or the ghostwriter.

Well. Deeply upsetting.
I think I was hoping for something a little more dry and dense (for once) - I found both the pink-hat-girl-power perspective and the "psycho a$$hole freak stalker behavior" phrasing grating. A lot of my favorite parts were up front, in detailed descriptions of the systematic failures/ignorance of websites refusing to act on patterns of abuse of their systems. The stories after that tended to meld into one big "this horrible thing happened, it was unconscionable what this pervert asshole psycho did, well turns out there aren't laws to address it." Which isn't incorrect! But it was a lot, and I would have been more interested in a more nuanced discussion about FOSTA/SESTA, international privacy law differences, and so on.

One day, I hope this selection is considered "ancient history"...until then, we have a LOT of work to do.

When I requested this book from Netgalley, I had no idea how engrossing, moving, unnerving, overwhelming, and important it would be.  Nobody's Victim is Carrie Goldber's memoir of the work she has done as a Victim's Rights attorney. She represents clients that have been assaulted, humiliated, stalked, and harassed in the digital age - something that is crucial these days. The stories of her clients gave me chills, and made each of the issues personal. The author's own stories were heartbreaking and inspirational, because they set her on a path forward. In a fiercely feminist, accessible way, Goldberg tells readers that she believes, you are enough, and she won't stop fighting for you.

Well... that was super upsetting and I ended up getting drunk finishing it. Buuut it should resonate with practically everyone. Which is a fucked up thing to say. Ugh.
