Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls is a wonderful series and this collection of 100 short biographies of women of color are phenomenal. Due out 28th Sept 2021 from the editors of Rebel Girls, it's 240 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.

This is a wide-ranging collection of 100 short biographies of girls and women of color representing a spectrum of careers and callings; from medical professionals to athletes, and from scientists to entertainers and activists. This collection will show youngsters that their dreams are important and achievable. 10 year old me would've absolutely loved this book. This will be one that young readers will revisit again and again.

Each mini-bio has the name of the subject, a short header with their field of expertise, and an interesting and well written (age appropriate) biography. The biographies are enhanced by very well rendered portraits of the subjects, short inspirational quotes, as well as a footer entry with biographical info such as birthdate and birthplace. I learned quite a lot myself reading through this book. Many of the biographies will be immediately familiar to readers, but many will likely be new.

Like all of the other books in the series, the editors have included a number of links and resources for further reading. One of the things I really liked about this book was the format of the biographies... they're all sort of written in a fairy-tale style: "Once there was a girl named....", "When Octavia was young, she saw...", "Once upon a time..". This collection would be wonderful for bedtime reading, and by the time the book is read through, youngsters will be ready to start at the beginning again.

Truly worthwhile. This would make a superlative selection for home use, library acquisition, gifting, or school/classroom library.

Five stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes

Thank you Netgalley and Rebel Girls for a review copy of this book.

I love this series of books and this is such a great addition to the already published works. These stories of amazing black women are great for all to read, no matter their race or gender identity. I loved learning more about women I already knew about as well as new stories of those I’d not heard of before. This is great for reading in one night or spreading it out to read with your kids at night.

This book was phenomenal. short biographies of 100 black women across the diaspora. Each one listed as well as ones that were not mentioned are the epitome of black girl magic. This amazing book is perfect for every black girl, young and not so young. Phenomenal representation for all black women. I am going to make sure every little black girl connected to me has their own copy.

I received a copy of the book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review

This is a book that all young girls should read. Books like this show that it is okay to not fit into the mold, that it is often better to break that mold and make ourselves who we want to be rather than what others think we should be. The stories in this book show just how much good can be accomplished by doing the unexpected and how that can help others as well. I hope this is a book that parents read to their children, both boys and girls, to help them see that they shape who they want to be and not the other way around.

Thank you, NetGalley for the chance to read this book!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic by Lilly Workneh, Jestine Ware, Diana Odero, and Sonja Thomas.

This was an amazing book!!

First and foremost this book is all about Black Girl Magic (#blackgirlmagic) and is illustrated by over 60 black female and non binary artists, written by four black female authors (Lilly Workneh, Jestine Ware, Diana Odero, and Sonja Thomas) and edited and forwarded by CaShawn Thompson, the creator of the term Black Girl Magic!

This was a wonderful read. Reading about women I knew of, and women I did not know of and am now pleased and grateful to know of. So many women who have done fantastic things that I had not heard of before and deserve to have their stories shouted from the rooftops.

I have not got any children of my own yet, but my best friend has a wonderful five year-old girl who would love to hear about these amazing women of colour and I'm defiantly going to be purchasing a copy of this book so these wonderful women's stories can continue to be heard and shared with the new generation.

Another great book in this series. I absolutely loved the art in this one and how each person was drawn by someone different. Thank you to the authors for introducing me to all of these amazing girls and women who I might not have known about otherwise.

Thank you to netgalley and the authors for providing me with an arc for an honest review.

I'm a huge fan of all the Rebel Girls books. It's inspiring to read about the story of so many incredible women who made our world a better place.

"Life Tales of Black Girl Magic" is even more special, because these women had to face not only sexism, but also racism. And still, they managed to show their power and skills. I wish I could buy this book for all the black young girls, just so they can always have a reminder of their strength, no matter what the haters say.

And I love this quote: "As I’ve grown up and now understand the world in a more adult way, I’ve come to realize that what I believed to be magic as a little girl was really the hard work, intelligence, strength, and love of the Black women around me. It is magical to see them spread their light in spite of the obstacles they have faced."
