Este libro lo leí cuando iba en quinto o sexto de primaria. Mi mamá lo compró en una feria del libro que se puso en su lugar de trabajo. Fue el primer libro que en verdad captó mi atención (probablemente por la llamativa portada que brillaba muchísimo y el tema del hipnotismo que yo desconocía casi en su totalidad a esa edad) y me tuvo leyendo durante la noche con una pequeña linterna bajo las cobijas de mi cama. Creo que con este libro inició todo.
Después de leerlo, ví que habían otros que continuaban la misma historia, se los pedí inmediatamente a mi mamá y en unos meses ya los tenía conmigo. Me hicieron muy feliz mientras los leía, me intrigaban las aventuras que comenzaban cuando abría el libro. Recuerdo que hasta quería aprender hipnotismo e intenté varias veces poner a alguien en trance con mi voz. Já.
(Dejé que mi niña interior de 10 años eligiera la calificación apropiada para el libro. Esperando que más niños -o no tan niños- lo lean c:)

"Molly had this special feeling tonight, as if something exciting or strange were about to happen to her. The last time she'd felt special, she'd found a half-eaten packet of candy on the pavement in the village. The time before, she'd gotten away with watching two hours of evening television instead of one. Molly wondered what surprise would greet her this time."
This was pretty cute, though the ending felt a bit odd to me. Molly suddenly became very adult-like, despite being distinctly childish for the previous 4/5 of the book. I also didn't really get why Nockman did that little bit of thievery towards the end, though after seeing that this is part of series, I suppose that may have something to do with it - still, it felt like an out-of-place tidbit to have tossed in. Loneliness was a big theme towards the beginning and ends of the book, and I think there could've been a few moments sprinkled in throughout the middle section to make the point better. I was a bit appalled by Molly's blatant abuse of her hypnosis powers, but I'm sure being an adult has something to do with that.
"A moment later she was practically blown out of the water. Molly slammed her hand on the button again and the bubbles stopped. She wasn't sure about the Jacuzzi. It was like ten monsters farting in her bath all at once."
"People aren't liking the real me. They're liking something unreal. Like an ad. They're liking a sort of fake Molly Moon. So it makes the real me feel like rubbish, and my life here is just a waste of time, because it's not the real Molly Moon's life."
"Without the structure of school and rules, and by not having anything to fight against anymore, they'd fought one another and broken their alliances. With their gang smashes, they'd all had to stand alone. And then they'd had to face themselves, and they didn't like what they'd found."

Great kids book. So much fun. So empowering and cute. So simple too. And of course, it's a little unbelievable, but fun!

I first read this when it came out. I was twelve or thirteen at the time and I absolutely loved the story. I thought that it was time for a reread and I loved the story as I have loved it ten years ago.
Molly Moon is an orphan and an outsider. She gets picked on from everybody and drifts into daydreams of flying away from the orphanage into a better world. Everything changes when she finds a book about hypnotism and that's where the adventure begins!
I loved Molly Moon, she was my favorite character as a child and I still can emphatize with her. Also Petula, the pug, was so adorable. I loved that dog!
Although the story is almost 400 pages long, I almost flew through the story. It was gripping and funny and I just adored it!

Really cute. Great little story. I read it with my 9 yo and he's going back and reading it himself as a 11 yo.
