For me I loved this book. At first the MFC was hard to get into because of how callous she seems. As you learn her past and dive deeper into her mind, you kind of see why she is so angry. She’s tired of pretending to be someone she’s not, and she only feels like her self when she makes a kill. Sad but true. She hates feeding her instincts but it’s the only real connection she has to feeling like herself and she has never know another of her kind to teach her how to control her powers. Killing is bad but she tries to only kill the bad guys, or so she thought. With the segregation of the species, the barrier that was built that keeps them all trapped, the annihilation of her kind and other creatures under fae rule, her pretending to be fae, and the constant need to prove herself all the time. This 17 year old siren assassin has a lot of secrets, no wonder she’s so pissed off.

WOW WOW WOW!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for an Advanced Reader Copy.
I don’t think I have the words to explain how much I LOVED this book. This is honestly my favourite book of the year so far and I am already so excited for book two.
The world building is incredible, it eases you into it with such amazing descriptions but also moves the plot along at the same time.
Within the kingdom of Kierdre you have Fae being Water, Earth, Air and Fire, witches, sirens and lots more which play a crucial part in the story.
The main character Saoirse is your stereotypical morally grey character who does everything she can to prove herself worthy. The other main character is Hayes, a prince, who gives off the most incredible golden retriever energy. I love all the characters and the dynamic between them.
I would definitely recommend this book if you love:

i wanted to like this so much but alas 😮💨 writing-wise, it was so incredibly repetitive and straightforward. it feels like we got bits and pieces of everything—a bit of lore, a bit of worldbuilding, a bit of character development, a bit of plot, a bit of political intrigue—but they don't exactly sum up to a good book.
the ending was so rushed, plot-hole ridden, and the characters felt stunted. it had decent enough worldbuilding and lore but the magic system was an afterthought. while i appreciate an intentionally unlikeable anti-hero type of character, Saoirse as a character is quite boring and underdeveloped, and she's the "most developed" out of all the characters in this book. Prince Hayes is pretty much a fog.
definitely not in a rush to pick-up the sequel.
