Bowditch is once again walking the tightrope of what is his job and what should be a police matter. Book 8 of this series just didn’t seem to have much to it. There wasn’t any thing new or different. He has girl troubles, works too much, deals with uneducated people, and doesn’t listen when he is told to stand down.

Every one of these Mike Bowditch mysteries are just as good as the last. The very best part, for me, is to be out and about in the state of Maine, looking at wildlife and nature through the eyes of someone who loves it. Mike Bowditch is an incredibly likable, smart guy. I do not understand his taste in women, though, and I am looking forward to the ending's possibilities to come. As far as the plot goes, there are a lot of bad people in this one -- you just have to remember that there are loads more good people than bad!

2.75 stars rounded up.

I didn't realize this book was one of a series, though I am pretty sure it consists of standalones that interconnect. This book was ok. A palet cleanser if you will. Not groundbreaking, simplistic writing, and painfully repetitive, but enough to pull you through the lull.

The books in this series just keep getting better and better - this one really surprised me at the end.

3.5

Another installment in the Mike Bowditch book series finds the protagonist searching for the mother of a baby found dead in the woods...and what appears to be a woman who has been missing for 4 years.

As is usual for this series, the story is quite engaging and quickly pulls the reader in.  It's formulaic, but in this book it's clearer why Bowditch is obsessed with the case.  The story flows better, also, than many of the previous entries in this series.
