Former Army Ranger Travis Devine is now working with Homeland Security. He is sent to Putnam, Maine to find out who murdered CIA operative Jenny Silkwell.

Jenny, the daughter of a former U.S. senator, was estranged from her family, making her recent visit to her hometown puzzling to Devine. With her phone and computer missing, time is of the essence. While conducting his investigation, Devine has to work with the local sheriff, who is not very happy to have this outsider appear in this small community. And Devine senses that Jenny's siblings and the residents of Putnam are not being honest with him and are trying to keep some town secrets buried. The case gets more complicated when it appears that more crimes need to be solved first to get to the bottom of what happened to Jenny. As Devine starts getting closer, he hopes he'll live long enough to get the job done.

Author David Baldacci is one of the most popular authors in the genre of mystery thrillers because he knows how to write strong page turners. Having enjoyed The 6:20 Man, the first book in this series, I was happy that we hadn't heard the last of Travis Devine. He's a great character - tough, smart, damaged and sensitive. I enjoyed The Edge even more than the first book, which is still worth reading. You can read this latest one as a standalone. It's action-packed, fast-paced, and has a good plot. Exactly what we expect from Baldacci.

Rated 4.25 stars.

Thank you @netgalley for this ARC

Before I entered the world of Romcoms, I loved a
good suspense mystery. David Baldacci was one of the
authors I read often. It has been a few years since I
read one of his books and this one did not disappoint.

MMC Travis Devine is sent to a small town in Maine to
investigate the murder of a CIA agent. Main female
character Alex wants to escape he past start over
.Jenny is the daughter of a Senator, a CIA Operator
and Alex’s sister. She is missing along with her phone
and computer. She ends up dead and this is the
murder that Travis has been sent to solve. He is now a
special investigator with Homeland Securiy. Travis a
having a hard time getting the family and town people
to talk with him since they are looking at him as an
outsider. There are many secrets in this small town
and Travis will need to work hard to uncover them. As
time goes by this case gets even more complicated
with even more crimes coming to the surface. Is
Jenny’s murder connected to these unsolved crimes
and is a possible coverup going on. As Travis
investigates he also becomes closer to as Alex. Slowly
a relationship develops between the two but it will last
or get lost In the criminal investigation. David Baldacci
writes a fast paced intriguing story filled with
espionage, action, lies, murder and romance. The
author had me guessing the “who-dun-it” till the end of
the book. What a wild enjoyable ride this book was!
Looking forward to the next 6:20 book!
