(1.5) I’m sorry, but there are too many scenes in the beginning that feel low-key rapey for me to rate this anything higher. I don’t expect every romance book to have explicit consent (though those are just *chef’s kiss*), but this left a sour taste in my mouth. After the two-thirds mark it gets a little better, which is the only reason I’m giving this 1.5 stars instead of 1.
Even if those scenes had been written in a way that didn’t make me feel uncomfortable, the protagonist was infuriating enough to deserve the low rating. Eleanor is too childish and inane to be realistic. Plus, the sex scenes are BAD. Every single word describing either genitals had me cringing. I wanted to skip them but that’s the one downside of audiobooks: you usually can’t skip until the cringe is over without potentially skipping something that might come in play later.

I already got the audiobook set for the quartet so I’ll give the next book a try. But omg, this was a bad start.

This book was quite entertaining. It’s very naughty, but sometimes a girl wants to read that kind of thing! I didn’t really enjoy the beginning when the h’s father birches her. That part was a bit too taboo and uncomfortable for me.

The H is very nice, understanding, and accommodating for the most part. He puts up with a lot of ridiculous antics from the very self-centered and unlikeable h. The h is annoying, selfish, and quite dumb. It’s hard to feel anything for her because she’s so atrocious and spoiled, but it gives the H plenty of opportunities to correct her behavior. This book ends on a cliffhanger, which I loathe. It was a fun read but I doubt I’ll purchase the series in order to continue. I like my h’s a little less vapid.

Historical Erotica

I enjoyed this very much. But, I would have liked it more if there was more to the story. It needs something, be it Humor or Suspense etc. As it is, I wouldn't say it's one dimensional, but it definitely needs MORE to keep you involved with the characters.

I like Elenore and Edwin, but neither character comes off as truly mature.

Neither communicate well with each other & in Elenore's case, she doesn't seem to communicate with anyone really. She just makes assumptions and goes head long into acting on those assumptions.

That quality about her was sometimes grin worthy and more often 'Grimace' worthy.

The intimate scenes between these two are Steaming Hot! And very Erotic.
Continuing to the next in the series.

Note: This ends in a way that leads into the next book. One of the worries Elenore has, which really becomes annoying by the 3rd book, continues throughout this series.
Also, this series would have been better if each book had a definitive HEA for each set of mc's in each book. Instead, the mc's for each book crossover with the others. While I like that the characters crossover into all the books, I don't like hearing Elenore's repetitive thoughts about her One Particular worry over Edwin.

There’s really not a lot of substance to this book. Just a lot of sex. The prologue was so very very creepy. I actually had a look of pure horror on my face when I was reading that!

This is after a birching scene...

“As he returned the birch rod to its cupboard, the young men in the gallery were able to stare unimpeded at the sight of the sobbing and chastened Eleanor, her formerly creamy buttocks and thighs now hot and glowing, her cunny swollen and reddened.”

.... a birching that she got from her FATHER!!!!!! WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!?! Why is her father birching her bare ass and asking her to spread her legs so that her “cunny is swollen and reddened”?!???!!! WHYYYYYY?!?! CRINGE!!!!! It honestly made me CRINGE so hard. Thank god there was no more of that because I would for sure have stopped reading.

Other than the scene above, which I would describe as “incest adjacent”, the rest of the book was good.

This is both a hot read but also has a pretty decent story line too

The books title and the series title warn you what to expect, so if domestic discipline (man spanking woman for bad behaviour) will rile you then don't read this. However if you love a well written historical romance, with some DD and a few kinky scenes then jump right in.

I felt like I devoured this book and totally adored both Edwin and Eleanor. I felt on edge at first, courtesy of the fab writing that pulled me into the story and made me feel Eleanor's anxiety and worries of not being enough for Edwin.

The modern woman in me wanted to rail at the injustice of her basically having no say in her own life, but that was how it was. Once I let go of my modern day expectations I found I really relaxed into the read and was quite shocked when I got to the epilogue. I needed so much more, especially since we were barely at a HFN point! Thankfully the whole quartet of books is now available, so I don't have to wait to continue Edwin and Eleanor's story, whist also starting to learn more about her brother Hugh and his new bride Irene!

I did not like this book, I was still delirious from the all nighter flight from Seattle when I decided to read it. I obviously did not know what I was getting my self into so honestly my fault, cant say I enjoyed it
