(Spoilers for "Murders In The Rue Morgue")

Of the 24 Poe short stories I have read, this one is easily the worst. Whereas "Murders In The Rue Morgue" painted a captivating picture of the crime scene, leading to an interesting confrontation at the end of the story, "The Mystery of Marie Roget" drones on as a critical analysis of three different crime scenes. Makes for an interesting use of logic and argumentation, but terrible literature.

A significant step back after 'Rue Morgue'. The ending leaves something to be desired and I feel the attention to detail that made the previous story stand out is not really present here. Really just drags on and the prose is not good enough to justify it. Also the parallels with a real tragedy are a bit much.
