As a big Star Wars fan, and specifically a big fan of the dynamic between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn, Master & Apprentice was a mixed bag. I really enjoyed the exploration of Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon's personal & ideological differences and their struggle to find their stride in their partnership. I also enjoyed the exploration of Qui-Gon's relationship with Dooku and Rael Aveross. And, as ever, I love listening to Qui-Gon take the Jedi Council to task for their complacency. However, parts of this book were lacking - the plot on Pijal wasn't the most interesting thing ever, and I don't think it had anything revolutionary to say about slavery or corporate capitalism, which is a shame given how big of a part they both played in the plot. And in that vein, it didn't have a particularly deep take on revolutions, radicalism, or monarchies. Lots of huge conceptual plays thrown onto the table without much follow-through. Additionally, the ending was INCREDIBLY rushed; it needed at least another chapter or two
Spoiler after Cady betrayed Fanry to really give me a sense of closure - like don't just say she talked to Deren; I wanna see that!

This is everything I could’ve hoped for in a Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan book, and more. It gives great insight on both characters, and shapes them for what will become The Phantom Menace.

Ironically, Qui-Gon is a lot like Anakin. I can’t help but think it would have been an absolute disaster if he had been the one to train him instead of Obi-Wan.

I was not a fan of Gray’s other Star Wars books, but this was definitely worth it.

Greatly enjoyable prequel to The Phantom Menace (a pre-prequel, if you will). Adventure that didn’t take itself too seriously, featured many memorable characters, and provided plentiful foreshadowing into the Skywalker saga. Only complaint is that the character POV switched so often that it felt like head hopping.

The slavery plot was mostly well handled through the one "some species like being enslaved" comment threw me off.
The plot/action was generally good but the ending felt rushed.  And there seemed to be quiet a lot repetition of things.
I loved the side characters mostly Pax and their crewmate, they have a great dynamic and were fun. But  Rael Aveross was cool too.
I am not that big of a fan of Qui Gon Jin and the whole prophecy stuff just makes me uncomfortable, and it is mostly his book, so not perfect for me. I am not adopting most of the handling of the jedi order and also not all of young Obi Wans characterization from here, just didnt vibe with my interpretation of it.
