wow i am spoilt
today i was chilling at the bookstore with my friend and proclaiming my woes over not knowing who writes good contemporary romance
and then i came home and read this and like
girl, whatchyu talking about??????
you get super adorable realistic stories like this and you want to talk about how hard it is to find romance?
hard out there for a greedy reader

Cute and entertaining, definitely on the softer side of Yuri manga. Recommended (and subsequently lent to me) by a friend. It was a quick read, but I don't regret the decision.

Morinaga's work is frustrating because from moment to moment and story to story it's hard to know whether she's going to fall into the usual tropes or use her stories to discuss real issues. This volume for the most part takes a turn towards the more realistic and actually talks about the primary couple wanting to live together and get married even if it's not legally binding, and wanting to protect each other from bullying. It's definitely much better than Morinaga's previous work, Girlfriends, which is very typical of the era it was written in. Overall, it's not terrible but I can't say I'm going to reach for any of Morinaga's other works.

I really, really enjoyed this - super cute art and a super cute story with some serious moments. I especially liked the part where Nana tells Hitomi they're equals and there's no need for them to act out the traditional roles of a heterosexual relationship.
But mostly, it's a really adorable story about adorable girls in love with each other.

There are other reviews that say all there is to say about this book and they are right. While GIRL FRIENDS focused on the struggle to come to terms with a non-hetero sexuality and embarking on a closeted relationship, KISSES, SIGHS, AND CHERRY BLOSSOM PINK discusses coming out, sexually prejudiced friends, experimentation, normative relationship roles, and the lure of running away. All wrapped up with sailor uniforms and pretty bows in Morinaga's adorable artwork.
AND I FREAKING LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT.
Ahhhhhh, I don't know what Morinaga's life is like, but hot damn, authoress, I feel these struggles so much. I have been in almost all these places! I did the whole sneaking around thing and separate school pain! Anytime you write anything else I will buy it! These will be required reading for my kids! Wow wow wow. I love.

This was such a cute manga. The bond between Nana and Hitomi was so sweet, and they really care about each other. I also really love the story "Kiss, Love, And My Prince" but I wish it had been just a little longer. Anyone who likes cute shoujo ai and yuri should read this.

Ahh, I love Milk Morinaga's manga. Her characters are so real and the stories are so sweet, while also dealing with different parts of identity and where they are in life. I love Hitomi and Nana's relationship. They smaller stories are just as adorable, but there's something about getting to watch and Hitomi and Nana grow into their relationship and feelings that makes it so much better.

I go into Milk Mornaga's manga expecting two things and two things only: fluffy cuteness and girls kissing. Needless to say, this collection of short stories more than delivers.
