I enjoyed the first volume but this one dragged. It was overly long. It wasn't that there wasn't action, but there was so much random running around that it all started to feel like white noise. And in the midst of the fighting, I was bored.

I think there could've been some heavy editing to make it into a single volume.

I loved that Sorcha and Eammon got a happy ending. I loved Sorcha as a character and I found myself enjoying that it was truly her story. Watching her grow and learn her magic and become queen was really engaging.

This story was amazing - all the characters and world building. The relationship between Sorcha and Eammon is beautiful. They both reacted in ways that were unexpected and surprisingly wonderful. It wasn't angsty but I was hooked. I listened to the audible books and Siobhan Waring gave an absolutely stellar performance. I really hope this series will continue on audible - I would give this about 2 chili peppers on the spicy scale.

I am going to have a major book hangover until her book The Demon Court Audiobook comes out on 8/29.

Veins of Magic by Emma Hamm is simply wonderful. She has written a take on Beauty and the Beast that isn't simply focused on the defenceless maiden learning to love a magically disfigured brute. Its a story of a strong woman who knows her own mind and knows her own strenths and weakness. She wont bow down to what Eamonn, the Beast in this story, tells her to do when she knows he is wrong. She is not afraid.
Reading Veins of Magic was especially wonderful for me as it is a fairytale set in mythical Ireland where the main protagonist is clearly a feminist at heart, even if that word doesn't exist for her.
I highly recommend reading this and the first book, Heart of the Fae.
