The issue keeps us off-balance about whether the character we’re following is actually Joker, and pulls the rug under us a few times. You follow a young boy as he’s brutally beaten by his father before eventually fighting back. Anyone who has been abused themselves should be warned about this issue – much like Harleen and the intense depictions of sexual abuse, the depictions of child abuse here are horrifying. Whether this boy evolved into a monster or not, something horrible is lurking in the city and it looks a lot like Jared Leto’s Joker. That’s an odd creative choice and I’m not sure I like it, but the art across the board is stunning.
I think the black-and-white segments are actually stronger, giving this issue the feel of a noir story. I’m not sure I enjoy reading it, but for what it’s going for, it’s doing it very effectively.

I think this issue comes off better if you consider it the second half of the introduction. Taken alone it seems like a weak issue, but when taken as a corollary to the first issue it makes more narrative sense. The first issue introduced us to Harley with flashes of Joker. This issue expands on the Joker while giving us glimpses into Harley's background. Excited to see where the story goes from here.

I thought this was such a great continuation of the comic series. I am loving Harley as a character and her help with the GCPD. We are slowly learning more about the Joker and other characters in Gotham. I can not wait to read the next issue . Plus I really love the art style.

I want to like this series, I really do. It has all the things that normally would make me like it but something just isn't working for me and I don't know what it is. I might give this another try when the TPB comes out and I can read it all in one go but until then... I think I'm going to pass.
