It was a compelling story but Laurie really bothered me in this. She says she wants to take a new look at the case but all she does is focus on Susan’s acting life and not the computer science she did. Even after her mother says that Susan was not what the media portrayed her to be, Laurie still ignores it. A professor who is rumored to be sleeping with students, a fellow Computer lab guy releasing the idea and plan that turned into a multimillion company just a few days after she died, and rumors that the professor actually came up with it cheating the college that his work belonged to? That is rife with alibis while the last person who was supposed to have seen her a director had no reason to kill her. And why would a crazy cult masquerading as a church want to kill her when they had no reason to? It’s like she constantly overlooked the only ones who has a motive. And she treated Dwight so horribly and like he was nothing, she’s the reason he died as she could take a single moment to call him and didn’t even care when he didn’t show up. Seriously, you could have saved him. And she never thinks about him after-it’s amazing how she can have so much empathy for some people and some murder victims but then Dwight was nothing to her.

This is my first time reading Mary Higgins Clark and I have to say it was a well done murder mystery. I've never jumped on a mystery author's bandwagon, finding that the books read formulaic. This may be the case with Mary but I enjoyed this one and though the story was a real page turner. Apparently this is a first in a new series so I'd definitely check the next one out.

Looking back I've not read a book by Mary Higgins Clark since 2009 and reading my reviews put the long time down to her books becoming very similar and blending into one. Alafair Burke is new to me and not a name I recognise at all. How do these collaborations work? Do they write alternate chapters? Or is one more of a consultant? Always been curious. Anyway back to the book in hand. The short chapters make it very easy to read however the tendency to try and each one on a bit of a cliffhanger got a bit tedious. The concept was an interesting one though, a reality TV series investigating a cold case, and not one I've come across before. An interesting quick read but not really got back into reading MHC books.

Mary Higgins Clark is definitely one author that I have lots of her books on my shelf for the times I need a quick fast paced mystery thriller. And in keeping with that, this book didn't disappoint. Enjoyed that I didn't really figure out who the murderer was until the authors wanted me to. I can't wait to read the others in this series!
