I really enjoyed this book.
It didn’t make me cry, like some said it would. However, it made me feel nostalgic for a time in which I have not lived. The details, the descriptions, it made me feel like I was actually there.

Loved:
- details
- Greek mythology references
- that it’s narrated by Patroclus
- learning of Patroclus before he came to Phthia

Didn’t love:
- the ending felt too rushed almost? A ten year war over in just a couple paragraphs?
- I would’ve liked to know some more about some of the characters and what became of them after the war.

** would not recommend for younger than 13 because of the descriptions in some scenes **

I loved this book so much. I read it so quick, mostly in one day. I loved the story so much. I understand the hype now! The characters were amazing. I am saddened by the last part of it but happy to have read such an amazing story.

I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world.

The way that I am in shambles right now. My emotions are truly all over the place and I feel overcome with the fear that I will never read a greater book than this one. In all honesty, I left this book sitting on my TBR for so long because part of me knew that this was going to happen, but that didn't ease the pain that I am currently feeling well past midnight.

How do you even review a book like this? I just have so many emotions - I'm crying so many tears that I can't even formulate a proper review so I'm just going to include my favorite quotes.

And perhaps it is the greater grief, after all, to be left on earth when another is gone

I mean come ON. Do you not see that? How can you read something like that and not feel a spear just twisting all of your guts inside you? *side-eye*

The way that this book makes me feel is not okay. I know the pain and sadness it brought me but some part of me wants to re-read it until its pages are worn and falling from the cover. Achilles and Patroclus, the truest original love story that there ever was. They just wanted to be happy.

He is half of my soul, as the poets say.

I think if someone were to say this to me, it would definitely be endgame. Like that is it. I'm calling it. I have been spoken for. I cannot wait for the day that I feel as though a person is half my soul. The love that bounds from that statement is not one to be reckoned with. My heart aches all over again just thinking of these two.

"I am made of memories."

“I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world.”

“And perhaps it is the greater grief, after all, to be left on earth when another is gone.”

“In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.”

Why am I curled up on the floor in the fetal position making sounds only my dog can hear do you ask?
Oh, it’s just bc my heart has been ripped from my chest, stomped and then blended into a puree. That’s all. And yes! I blame all my mutuals on GR for this unbearable heartache!!!

Seriously though, this book is so damn tragically beautiful. The writing is like poetry, so seamless. The pacing is perfect and the imagery is done so well.

Patroclus you deserve the WORLD!!! This beautiful beautiful man!!! My babies deserved so much better, I mean just an epic love. I know they will stay with me for a very long time. ❤️
