Huh. This felt like there wasn't any there, there. The romance was lame and half-hearted. It almost read like a mystery, but there wasn't an actual mystery. There were just a bunch of scenes that didn't add up to an actual plot. But the main problem was with the heroine. She was immature: treating her fans badly (calling out a fan to be 12 years old when she was actually 19), and bothered by fans who said they used to love her books. Well yes! When you write children's lit, the fans generally grow up and move on.
And the whole misunderstanding with Will dissing Jo's work never really got resolved, even though it seemed to be the main focus driving the plot. We didn't really learn exactly why he said it (he was unhappy about something with his sister), what he actually said, and he never fully apologized for it. But even though it was something that deeply affected the past year for Jo (changing her appearance, dealing with writer's block, etc), she suddenly forgave him and was over it. It just made no sense.

Spoiler
And then there's the fact that there wasn't really an HEA so this is technically not a Romance.thekatiefu's review against another edition

Cheesy with an extra side of cheese. But I still really enjoyed it.

Honestly expected a lot more from this author, but maybe it was rosy-tinted glasses. Thought the characterisation was a little weak throughout this, as well as motive and thought patterns, and the main character Jo was pretty irritating at points. Fine, but could do a lot better.
(Also I got really annoyed with the cat-isms.)

A cute enemies to lovers trope. Jo Wright has sworn off going to Little Bridge Island until she gets an offer she can’t turn down. She heads to the Island for a book festival thinking the one person she has been avoiding will not be there. She doesn’t even leave the airport before she runs into Will, the one person she didn’t want to see. She is in complete shock not only that he is there, but that he seems sorry for what he did.
I felt like there was something missing from this one. I enjoyed it, but kept waiting for the big moment… it just didn’t come for me. It’s a quick, cute read.

A fun read but I was not a fan of any of the characters.
Fast paced light read. Good for a beach read.
