This book was so much better than the first one! Even though I kinda saw the ending coming, but it was still a great story.
There wasn't as much repetitivness as in the first one, since the story wasn't tied to this race, which is bound to be repetitiv. We got to see so much more of the world and the character's growth was amazing. I absolutely fell in love with Luka and even though I hated Felix, I was still able to understand his motives, which made the whole thing very believably.
The thrown in German words didn't bother me too much in this book either, because there weren't so obnoxiusly many of them!

I feel so attacked by this book.

Such an incredible story, fierce characters, and evocative writing. My nerves are frayed and my emotions in tatters.

Blood for Blood is brilliantly conceived and written -- the historical context (and re-imagination of events), the war strategy and tactics, the multiple perspectives, the way the author folds in previously mentioned details and events... all of these things completely and seamlessly immerse you into this alternate universe to the point where your own heart is pounding like a drum as these characters attempt to complete their mission.

Who will live and who will die?

(I don't know but my anxiety and adrenaline spiked multiple times while reading this book and I would like to be compensated for my distress.)

Blood for Blood is the perfect and perhaps most realistic conclusion to a beautiful duology, and if you still haven't read Wolf by Wolf, then goodness what are you doing here? Get yourself a copy immediately.

Hmmm. I think I liked this one better than the first -- probably because I was already invested in the characters. I liked the pacing, and the story and the fact that there were plenty of surprises! I kept on thinking that something else would happen, only for Graudin to pull a "nope, the reasonable thing will happen here". It was lovely to see her pull off these schemes and them working.

Again, still not wild about the whole problematic theme, BUT it felt better in this one? In the way of Felix and Luka not being into the regime, and more about protecting themselves (and in Felix's case, his family). Still not great, but limitations of the genre.

I feel like Graudin's writing style itself was actually stronger in this one than its predecessor, Wolf by Wolf, but the plot was weaker. While Wolf by Wolf felt like a lot was happening, this book was the opposite. Certain sections were really tense, but the book as a whole felt quite slow as if part of a long saga than a short, action-packed duology. This was the main weakness of the book, but it was still really good. The characters all kept their personalities overall, and, while predictable at times, the presentation of plot twists and high points was done really well. This one didn't pack the same punch as Wolf by Wolf, but I still really enjoyed it.

I am torn.
I want to give this 5 stars, but one major thing in this book - the thing that no doubt made everyone heartbroken or sad - stops me from doing so. Not because I'm angry it happened (I saw it coming) but because I really don't see why it needed to happen beyond 'Well, there needs to be sadness and this will make people sad.'
Still an enjoyable series. A heart wrenching one. I just think Blood for Blood went a little too far, and didn't justify it enough, for my complete satisfaction.
