This is probably my least favourite in the series so far. I mean, it's still a pretty decent book. I absolutely flew through it. I thought the atmosphere build was incredible as well. I liked the new characters in this book as well, and the overall story was really intriguing to me.
However, I just really did not like Cassidy in this one. She has never been the smartest protagonist but this whole book hinges on the fact that she is just stupid. Truly, her stupidity is completely unmatched. It's almost unbelievable. Her common sense was just completely gone throughout this book, and it got on my nerves at times.
I also really disliked the ending. I do have to say that the events in the end were very much lead by Cassidy's stupidity. So it would make sense for me not to like it. However, I also have to say that it just felt a bit anti-climactic, and a bit too sunshine and rainbows. I know it's a middle grade book, and I definitely didn't expect this to be all doom and gloom. However, it was just a bit too positive. I don't know. It felt very fake and disingenious. It just didn't work for me.

And so, the Veil falls for one last time for Cassidy Blake...and I am going to miss her.
This is the last installment of the trilogy, which I listened on audiobook and that, to me, is the best way to enjoy it (specially if you, like me listen it to it at night and in the dark...so, the eerie, and sometimes scary effects hit where they need to).
I liked this story, specially the setting as I always wanted to see New Orleans. I like how darker this was and how the consequences from the previous books came to catch our young protagonists while mantaining the narrative rythtm all the way until the end of the story. I also like how this story laces dead and ghostly parts with more human, living interactions (no, spoilers, I promise).
Maybe the only thing that left me a bit unsure was that the resolution of the conflict was too quick for my taste (Do not take this the wrong way: while the conflict was at its peak I was holding on for dear life, I just wanted to be longer).

This book took everything I liked about the first book and amplified it. The setting plays a big role in the story, there is a lot of emotional development between the characters that I felt was lacking a tiny bit in the previous two installments. The plot was engaging and the main villain was as creepy (or a bit more) than the first book. It's rare that the last book in a series is my favorite, but this one definitely is.

Schwab

I really enjoyed the other 2 books in this series but was particularly excited to pick this one up as I have been to New Orleans before and love that city. The author does such a fantastic job of really grounding each book in the location and bringing the history and ghosts to life; I love it. It made it even more fun that I could vividly picture the majority of the locations since I was just there last year. I can't say much about the plot without spoilers since this is the 3rd installment but I loved the character progression and the new characters that were introduced. I'm hopeful that eventually more books will be released in this series.
