While Dylan is a very likable character, the h is a bit too neurotic to make this story very enjoyable.

Another surprising 5 star read!!!!!!  DYLAN THE TRUE LOML OMG. He is so swoony and dreamy and wonderful. He starts off the book being a bit of a workaholic (I will overlook this) but leave his hometown to basically start something new. He meets Kat, but he's curious about her. I love this about him because he's not all "she wasn't wearing makeup, had that natural beauty" sort of crap that I hate to read when they have dual POV. He like actually sees her as a person and wants to understand why she is the way she is. Kat has gone through so much in her life and when she described some of her anxieties with people, I really understood her. And Dylan is so patient and really tries to make her feel safe. When she said she trusts him >>>>>>>> omgggg. What made me love Dylan even more was when he realized that Kat was going to freak out about their arrangement😏, he immediately went over to talk things out with her and reassure her. Even when they have the obligatory fight 3 quarters of the way through the book, it was a moment of high intensity, but he was still respectful and kind and realized she was acting out because of her trauma. And the way he kept pining for her after that??? Literally chills flooded my body. And Kat, my awkward love. I honestly wish I could be her friend. I'm so glad she has someone like Dylan who wasn't ready to give up on them even when she felt like she didn't deserve someone to love her like that.  Honestly, I didn't expect to like, let alone love, this book once the "friends with benefits" shoe dropped. I audibly groaned and closed the kindle app for a second once I finished the chapter that declared this hit-or-miss trope. But I love Kat and Dylan so much. Karla, you've done it again!!!!!

This story was really very sweet. I wasn't all that invested in the characters or the story. It was easy to read and quick to get through but something was just missing for me. I felt like Kat was acted very different then I expected her to given her circumstances. She was a virgin and yet the morning after she threw up walls at Dylan and basically told him that he meant nothing to her and they were just friends with benefits. I felt like I could relate to her at the beginning of the story but as it went on, I found myself very confused by her actions.

Dylan was pretty swoon worthy. He was sweet, patient, and understanding. He would have been truly perfect if he had a splash more bad boy to him though. Because he was 34 and I think Kat was about 23, I felt kind of weird about the relationship. I felt like the age difference just kind of sat the wrong way with me. To be honest, it made me slightly uncomfortable. I still feel like I know little to know information about either characters even after I have finished the whole book.

I also was shaking my head at the epilogue. Kat had moved in with Dylan yet when Garrett made the mention of Dylan proposing, Kat was horrified. That really had me scratching my head. She had agreed to try to have a relationship for the first time in her life with this man and she was horrified and terrified at the thought of him proposing to her. I just didn't understand why she was with him at that point if the thought of marriage bothered her that much.

Overall the story was cute and had a happy ending but I didn't enjoy the story enough to reread it or continue on with the series.

description

This is my favorite book by Karla so far!! I was really excited to read this one after reading the blurb and finding out that the heroine was "much too young for him". I like reading characters with an age gap similar to these characters (about 10 years). It kind of has a forbidden/taboo feel to it and I LOVE those books.

Kat was too adorable. She was quirky and constantly made me laugh with her babbling and one-liners. There was an innocence about her that showed her age, but at times she seemed older than her years. Dylan was such a very sweet, a family man, and all-around a great guy. I loved seeing the two interact with each other. Watching the slow burn of a romantic relationship develop between them. That's my favorite kind instead of characters jumping right into bed. Sometimes the sexual tension that builds and builds is even better. I really enjoyed the friends and I'm curious to find out who's book is next. I liked revisiting some of the same characters from Karla's previous books even if it was brief. I think the dog, Leonidas, was my favorite character though. I'm a huge dog lover so I loved it whenever he was around.

I'm really looking forward to the next book Karla writes!!!

I love Karla Sorensen's writing (especially her latest books and series), but unfortunately did this not do it for me. It was actually kind of boring and I just wanted to get through the pages so that I could read something more interesting.

I don't know if I will pick up the next book in the series in the future, but for now I will just stick to Sorensen's latest series about the Ward sisters, because there it is quite obvious her writing has improved A LOT compared to this book.

Wonderfully Written

After reading all if the Washington Wolves and Ward Sisters books by Karla Sorenson, I felt compelled to read her other stories. I love the way she writes characters who have backstories that shapes the people they are as adults. Kat’s backstory was something that both her and Dylan had to deal with and they did so in a remarkably perfect way. The way their relationship developed as a friendship first worked for them. When they became more, it was a somewhat “fade to black” scenario, but it worked for this book. It wasn’t lacking in any way because there weren’t any intense sexual scenes. It worked so well, because the relationship between Dylan and Kat was so strong. I’m so glad I found this series after all the books were written, because it would be difficult to wait for a book to release.
