Felt like a short story, which I mean as a compliment. So much of the world is hinted at while keeping the focus squarely on the protagonists. Left me wanting to read more stories set in this same world.

You know I said I didn't DNF books much, but I REALLY do not like Stephen King writing characters that are children. I was only like 20% in and I had seen enough. The concept is interesting so it makes me sad that I couldn't finish it. But seriously within the first PAGE. THE. VERY. FIRST. PAGE. We're commenting on the main character's mom's tits. Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? And this is just the first of many times we get "Men Writing Women Syndrome." And it's just very very very very icky to read and gross and bad and I can't even write grammatically correct sentences anymore. Also, I can't speak on the rest of the book obviously but it was getting a bit repetitive.

They walk. They banter. Sex reference. Someone gets shot.

Again I can't speak on the rest of the novel, I only stopped 20% in.

Recommend to: If you think the concept is neat and can suffer through "men writing women syndrome"

This book takes a very simple premise, what if 100 boys had to walk to the death, and brings you on a rollercoaster ride.

My only gripe is the use of the Nword. It felt gratuitous.

I would also would have liked more context about the world and what happens after the race, but I respect King’s choice to show only what he did.

"Queer, not queer, that didn't seem to matter now that they were all busy dying."

Wow
I really enjoyed this book.
It starts a little rocky, (One of the first things our mc does is talk about his mom's breasts), but it picks up.
You know going into it that most of these characters are going to die, but it's hard not to care about them. All their stories and personalities were really well thought out.
And it's funny and witty. And the gore isn't so extreme that it turns you away. It's so well done

"Our father, which art in tinfoil,
hallow'd be thy name."

The concept is really interesting, but I wish there had more of a focus on why the boys were in the Walk. It felt a bit lazy for most of the boys to just be like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
