DNF at 62%. I put it aside for a day and don’t care to go back to it.

This is so strange. I get the feeling that this used to be a book about police officers, but they used a program to remove the words “police” and “officer” and changed it to private detective, without actually changing any other part of the story, including the red and blue flashing lights on the car... And neither scenario works. If they’re private detectives, not once does anyone ever talk to the police, who are the ones who would need the info to eventually have the stalker charged. And how would a private detective agency financially survive in a small town? If they’re police, they never learned procedures like not fucking up a crime scene.

Tony victim blaming the shit out of Luna in the beginning pissed me off. Not sure he ever redeemed himself there.

Also, hire an editor. Sooo many grammar issues, and sometimes popular sayings are used in a way that tells us that the author doesn’t actually know what they mean.

Overall, great story.

Is there a lot of “me tough man, you weak woman”? Absolutely, that’s kind of the premise of the book. However, it’s a book and not real life so the feminism leaves my body when I read characters like this.

I know the author updated this from  Tony being a police officer to private security but there were still some parts that seemed to have been missed. Didn’t impact anything overall, just made me reread a couple parts, but I moved on and forgot about it pretty quickly.

Ahhhh Luna and Tony are totally written in the stars. Older brothers best friend trope coupled with a protector trope. Soooo good.

Loved Luna but I felt she was occasionally one dimensional. Her stubbornness gets to repetitive and ends up making you start to almost dislike her. Tony also sometimes borders more controlling and demanding than protective. All together it was a good read! Finished it 2 evenings, it goes fast! Can’t wait to read the rest of the series, this little town has my heart.

Tony’s character felt a little off. What started as a sweet, loved her my whole life kind of thing - quickly became possessive losing all the sweetness that had helped round out his character. Don’t get me wrong I love a protective, possessive man but he still needs that little bit of sweetness to balance it out.

Luna on the other hand felt incredibly relatable, I can’t imagine a more insecure strong willed girl than Luna.

I did catch the plot twist before it happened, it went from being slightly mysterious to blatantly obvious in a heartbeat. But in the end I still enjoyed the book. I’m glad we still get to see the MCs from other books & and it was fun to see how some of their stories were set up / played out.

Now on to the 3rd book!

First red flag was when the mmc graciously decided to wait for the fmc to turn 18 before pursuing her. Second red flag was when he found a photo of them together when he was 18 and she was 13 (!!!!!!!!) and reminisced fondly on the love in his eyes for her, even then. Super predatory behavior and absolutely inexcusable, especially given that the author explicitly states that she has gone back and made other socially conscious adjustments to the original story. I get that brother’s best friend is a popular trope but I found no reason for the age gap to be so large or the behavior so predatory.
