Entertaining and romantic to the last, Ms. Winter's novel is a fun and lively summer read that transports you to the cooler climes (but equally hot-burning flames) of the Scottish highlands. A particular note of appreciation from this reader: a male protagonist/will-they-won't-they love interest that isn't hyper-masculine or super soft but conveys the perfect combination of both. Slàinte, Mr. Murray. And thank you.

What I liked:
-The flirty banter between Josefine and Aidan
-The growth multiple characters had
-Josefine’s family legend
-Location

What I Didn’t like:
-The cheating trope!!! I hate hate hate this. Completely unnecessary and stains a character.
-Josefine is a lawyer, but somehow is unable to maintain a cool composure when it’s appropriate to do so. This happens multiple times throughout the story line.
-The time frame makes laughably unrealistic.

Overall, it wasn’t bad. Most of what I didn’t like are purely personal preference, however, the cheating trope ruins books for me. That alone lowers a books rating. I wouldn’t read again or even suggest, that is unless you enjoy protagonists who constantly are rude to others and make extremely poor life choices with hardly any redeeming qualities. Honestly, Aidan deserves someone better.

A copy of this novel was provided through NetGalley by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not effect my opinions in any way.

Despite the concept and general speed, I wasn't all that impressed by Kissed by the Rain. I thought it was a solid release but also very, very standard in terms of plots and characters--almost feeling familiar in the wrong sort of way. You know the type, right? It's a decent enough book (and the writing is quite velvety and smooth) and all, but I had this feeling the entire time that I'd already read it several times before. For me, that makes reading the novel itself very tedious and because of it, I almost put the story down on more than one occasion.

This isn't to say that it didn't have its good parts--I did find myself enjoying a few scenes and characters, which is why it's right in the middle in terms of my own rating. You've got to remember while reading my thoughts on it that they are mine and mine alone; it doesn't determine your taste or the overall quality of the novel. I did like the twist of mystery in it--the whole idea that a ring was something that would determine the fate of our main character. Something about this superstition lifted the quality higher and put the plot in a direction that gave it a much-needed boost.

Sometimes you just need a bit of an escape. “Kissed by the Rain” was just what I needed after a few heavier books in my reading list. Who doesn’t like a nice love story with a lovely Scottish baker? With a strong female lead, and a series of events that force our two lovebirds together, Claudia Winters latest romance novel is familiar in a comforting way. If you enjoyed Leap Year than this will seem similar to you. But instead of simply chasing after a fiance, Winters gives us a pair of feisty aunts, a magical ring, and a whole slew of characters that help wrap up the whole story. I enjoyed that it wasn’t simply a love story but also a family story with just enough of a cozy storyline to move everything along. It was light and fluffy and just what I needed to cleanse my palate for the next few dark mystery novels I have lined up. There is even a couple of recipes at the end that look delicious.

Lovely book about a never ending quest on finding a ring that determines the happiness or misery of a bride. The best part about this book was definitely the family relationships. This book is just as much about romantic love as it is about familial love.
