"Howl, Kaddish and Other Poems" captures the spirit of the mid 20th century counterculture. Through his verses Ginsberg fearlessly challenges norms and reflects on his personal struggles. "Howl" stands as a milestone, an outcry, against conformity while "Kaddish" explores his complex relationship with his mother. These poems are Confessional and revolutionary offering a captivating glimpse into an era. Ginsbergs unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries shines through in this collection that is essential for anyone seeking to comprehend the beatnik movement and the profound impact of dissenting voices, in poetry.

"A way out of the mirror was found by the image that realised its existence was only a stranger, completely like myself."
I found this collection pretty difficult at first - I don't think 'Howl' is the most accessible introductory poem, at least in print form! But ultimately I think this is required reading for any of my fellow poetry gays. It's a beautiful though tragic study of queer life in the 50's, especially when considered with the resulting trial.
'Kaddish' absolutely broke my heart and is by far my favourite of the collection.

Awh Ginsey you sure got me; Kaddish truly outshone all others.
