It took me a bit to get into, but I liked it! I can totally see why everyone's obsessed with it, it just didn't scratch that same itch for me.

3..25/5⭐

The book was entertaining and I liked the plot, but I had a few misgivings:

1. A little bit blasphemous- I don't care if characters are atheist, but to have a character be a preacher but secretly not believe in God is pushing the author's agenda. That could have easily been left out and it wouldn't change any of the outcomes
2. Some of the situations seemed too progressive for the 1950s-60s
3. The ending almost seemed too tidy
4. I wasn't prepared for the SA scene which added some shock value. I loved the reference to pencils throughout the book but hated why Elizabeth always had one handy.

The book is too long it’s very repetitive between allll the examples of sexism (which are important to the plot and tone but that many examples didn’t need to be included) and then the retelling of what happened to Calvin and to Elizabeth over and over for new characters that come in the pace is very slow because of this but picks up when the magazine gets involved it starts to really roll along after that it’s very very well written it’s fun to read it just needs more editing especially to be cut down

I found it very slow paced, the story didn't really develop in the way I expected it to, but not really in a good way. I just found myself not wanting to pick the book up again.

Yep, a five star read. The commentary on male chauvinism, racism, and religious fallacies is presented with deep understanding while keeping the read fun and lighthearted. The addition of Six Thirty's POV was a stroke of genius. A must read!
