As is the nature with long books, there is so much to say about One Day. When you read about a character for so long, you end up having a sort of connection and longing for them.

I started off not enjoying this book at all, Dexter was such an annoying and unlikable character, which was super odd considering that this is supposedly a romance book. Emma seems to have no personality outside of liking Dexter either (my biggest gripe with this book ugh!). But as the story continued, I started to hope for good things to happen to him, and her, and them. However, I do feel that if their characters were better developed, the book would have been more impactful for me. But goodness me, did the latter half of this book have me shocked.

Ugh idk. Dex annoyed me so much it was almost unbearable to keep hearing about his pathetic life.
The earlier years were the best part. Em deserved better, which I think everyone (in and out of the book) knows. The very ending was cute. It was just a bit meh tbh and Dex really ruined it for me

I really enjoyed the way this book follows Emma and Dexter throughout the years, on the same day each year, a unique and engaging concept.

Emma was my favourite of the too as I found her to be lovable and relatable. But all of the characters are very well realised.

The latter part of the book felt rushed and the ending was abrupt, had more time been taken exploring this stage of their relationship I feel I’d of rated higher.

It’s certainly worth the read if you enjoy a slow burn, friends to lovers romance.

I absolutely loved the tv show on Netflix, so I decided to give the book a go. I was actually quite disappointed. I found the characters unlikable at first, pretentious and annoying. But I still read it till the end. I discovered how the series was loyal to the book. But each time the main characters interacted, I just didn’t see any chemistry or reason for them to like each other. But the individual development of both characters was interesting. Sadly, I just couldn’t help rolling my eyes at times when they got together.
For those who hesitate between the book and the adaptation, I’d say go for the latter.
