I read this on Wattpad and couldn't put it down. Now it is published and I heartily recommend it. Usually I can't stand romances but Robert Thier changed my mind on this one. The two main characters made the story. Usually I have issues with female noble women but Alya was a character that I could definitely root for without insulting my ideas of feminism .

And Reuben, oh, Reuben, he's such a bad boy in a good way. The plot was also tight and well planned.

So this book started out fine - if more than a bit historically inaccurate (but that's not any reason to not read a good story) - was going strong if a bit predictably: and then I got distracted by another book and just didn't get back to it: It's been about 3 months now and every time I look at it I just feel no motivation to pick it up.
I don't want to give it a bad review its just not what I am in the mood for right now - I strongly believe that 3 stars is accurate for the quality of story and writing.

I picked this up the other day, not really expecting anything game changing as the plot looked really interesting but the cover is just so off putting. However, the saying ‘never judge a book by it’s cover’ definitely rings true in this scenario as it was surprisingly brilliant.

The main character Ayla is one of all my time favourite leads and the banter between the two main characters (Ayla and Sir Rueben) is hilarious and they are so well written. The storyline and the whole plot is very well done and I learnt so much about military warfare in regards to sieges so it was really interesting.

One negative about this book though is the footnotes, I could have lived without having them at the bottom of each page as it was really annoying and it got in the way of being able to read the book as it always interrupted your immersive experience (it’s the only reason I’m deducting half a point). Other than that an excellent read and I’m exited to read the other books in the series - on kindle though I think only the first two books are released as physical copies.

(Unfortunately I didn’t know at the time but you can read this for free on Wattpad, so if you are wanting to read this, know you can read the trilogy for free on there)

SpoilerAyla is a 17 year old girl who has taken over the management of her father's estate and it's people due to his illness. She is doing her best but when she refuses an offer of marriage from a ruthless neighbouring lord, who wants to conquer all the land around him, all hell breaks loose. While trying to defend her land from a siege with only handful of men and and utter inexperience in battle strategies she is in danger of loosing not only her land but also her heart.
Reuben is a ruthless robber knight with no remorse and no honour and a big secret...or a few. When he finds himself under Ayla's care he will do anything to keep those secrets well hidden...or else he is done for.

I read this book through Wattpad community (http://www.wattpad.com/home) through which Mr. Thier brought his story to the wider audience before publishing the book. It got me hooked from the very beginning. Mr. Thier, as an avid lover of all things Medieval, shows his extensive knowledge and love of the said era. The story is full of various terms from Medival times and are thoroughly explained by the author. It is also a love story featuring hilarious banter between two people so obviously in love but so obviously in denial and all the misunderstandings and doubts that go hand in hand with love. Well, they do say thet the path to true love never runs smoothly. :)
If a mixture of history, adventure and romance is just your cup of tea, give this story a chance. It is highly entertaining and I for one can't wait to see how the story will develop.

A great story of a strong kind female leader and how people change each other demonstrating that love and hate are closer than you'd think.

I was asked to review this book by the author and wow. Just wow.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book, while at first I was very unsure about it because it's not my usual genre. I loved Ayla and also Reuben... I liked all the characters actually. The plot is always very gripping and exciting. It's filled with romance, action, and humor and I just loved it! I really want to read the next book because of the cliff hanger at the end!
