CW: Divorce, Near Death Experiences

I love this book. We follow a girl named Anna, who finds out her parents are getting divorced. They're also selling their family bookstore. Her mother takes her on a trip away from Los Angelos to a small town in Massachusetts. Here she'll learn about herself, and life, and how sometimes things can be unexpected and happen randomly.
I love the exploration of family, and friendship. It was magical and honest. The time travel aspects were intriguing and a great way to advance the story and the character's motivations. Everyone should give this book a chance.

A sweet middle grade (more than YA) book about a young 14 year old girl dealing with her parent's divorce and the summer she spends on Cape Cod helping her mother pack up the beach house while also magically meeting younger versions of her parents. Full of heart and magical realism. Recommended for fans of Rachel Lynn Solomon and great on audio.

Gonna let this book sit with me, just to make sure I'm not overrating it, as it's my first book I've finished since January.

But I loved Sometime In Summer. I loved how elements of it (no spoilers) took vibes from We Were Liars by E. Lockheart (at least in my head). I loved the twist that kept me guessing. I loved the overall atmosphere.

Okay. Reading slump over. Let's start summer!

I guessed the plot twist about halfway through but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of reading this at all. It made me homesick for New England summers though.

It’s truly a wonderful love letter to Massachusetts. I’m glad I picked it it up. I just wish I knew what book changed my life.

It was really good. And I’m not just saying that because me and the main character have the same name lol. It made me really glad I’m not 14 anymore but also nostalgic for it. But most importantly it reminded me that everything does happen for a reason and that everything will turn out okay

Katrina Leno is a master of storytelling. She knows how to write authentic characters, add the perfect balance of magic, and includes just enough clues to make the reader obsess over what's potentially going on.

This was a beautiful love letter to books while also being a story of growth that simultaneously explored different forms of love. The coastal Massachusetts setting was also super atmospheric and perfectly describes what a beachside summer feels like in New England.

I could honestly gush over this book all day. I truly adored every single page and found the entire reading experience to be utter perfection. (Ask my husband who knows every aspect of this story because I wouldn't shut up about it.)

Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC of this novel. 3.5/5 stars.

I didn't realize this was the same author who did Summer of Salt, so I should have expected some element of magical realism...and well...it's there but it caught me off guard? a lot? I don't want to spoil it, but I felt like it kind of ruined the vibes in the book. Sure, it helped Anna realize she was being self-centered and ignoring everyone else's concerns, but I also don't think that's a problematic trait when Anna is FOURTEEN. Like, why are we expecting her to have the world figured out? I'm also not sure why the book started with such a heavy emphasis on her period being a part of her life...but like, also s/o for the rep.

Anyways, I did enjoy the book up until the twist. I thought it was an accurate look at a 14 year old coming to terms with a divorce with her parents, their store selling, and a lot of changes while also being forced on the east coast for two months of the summer. I also googled Rockport, and now I want to visit.

The narration was annoying at some point, and I liked how there was a booknerd element to it as well...but the twist just REALLY ruined the immersion in the novel. I'm all for magical realism, but it just felt...weird? I'm not sure how else to review it without spoiling it so...good book, could have been better.
