Clive Barker has been on my list of authors to read at some point. He didn't disappoint with the descriptions, and I believe that is the key to the real horror in these pages. Although graphic and gruesome without any doubts, the stories are so far flung they brought me little horror. Its mostly bizarre body horror. It didn't do much for me other than it was hard to look away from the oddity. If you enjoy body horror, this might be for you.

I really enjoyed the first volume of the Books of Blood. These are the first short stories that I have read of Clive's and I will definitely be picking up the second volume.

My ratings of each story (not including the first story, The Book of Blood, as Clive doesn't consider it part of the collection).

The Midnight Meat Train - 5*
The Yattering and Jack - 3.5*
Pig Blood Blues 4.5*
Sex, Death and Star Light - 5*
In the Hills, The Cities - 3*

If you are looking for an introduction to horror or Clive Barker, this is a great place to start!
