I'll admit I didn't enjoy this as much as book one. The plot is a bit shaky in places and there's a few loose ends that get forgotten for a while. Nevertheless, I still love this book, and the series in general, and finished it in maybe three days. It's fast paced and a bit chaotic in places, but that adds to the feeling of unease as everything goes to hell.

Slow start, (as are most 2nd books in trilogies), but it really heated up!

Continues to be interesting. Fet and Setrakian, Palmer and Gus are compelling characters, and even Zach to an extent. Eph and Nora get a solid "meh" - for some reason, it's hard to feel any empathy for those two. Looking forward to the third book!

I am getting into horror writing so much. I picked up several Stephen King books this month because of this series.
I understand that this first statement has little to do with the quality of this book but it kinda does right?
This new love of horror books and the fact that this book was action from begin to end made this book more entertaining for sure than the first book The Strain. I am only disappointed in the fact that I have one more book and then this series is over... or is it?
Going to read the next one soon though and then on to the graphic novel and TV series... ha

yours,
Justin

It had been a while since I read The Strain, and this book picks right up where it left off. Here we see a city rapidly descending into chaos and no one, other than our heroes seem to be aware of it. Which I guess is a common theme in these descent into apocalypse stories.

I particularly love the glimpses we get into Setrakian's past and the life he has dedicated to hunting vampires.

I had two disappointments in this book. Both dealt with character ends that I won't spoil here. I will say that in the first case, it was disappointingly abrupt and in the other....seemingly pointless. Oh well.
