Chose to listen to author Campbell read her second empowering work. You can journal along with the book since each chapter offers personal reflection and action breaks. Overall an easily relatable speaker sharing many self-transformative messages.

Wow, this lady right here is off the hinges! I love her work so hard - been through both of her books this week. I read Light is the New Black in paperback and then listened to this book, Rise Sister Rise, on Audible (she has a great accent and reading voice). I ended up ordering a paperback version of this book too as I found it was hard to get through all of the inquiry prompts while listening, despite my mad scrambling to write everything down. The book is about 7 hours of listening, which I did over 2 days, but then I'd say I invested another 3+ hours in writing, so I recommend working with this book when you have time to dive deep, because if you are like me, that's exactly what you'll want to do. When I first started this book, it definitely felt a little out there. Very new age, feminine mystic, hippie chic. Then I realized I only felt that way because I was so uncomfortable with these aspects of myself and once I lowered my defenses, that's when the magic happened. These books are really about getting to know yourself and your power, not about "self improvement" or "fixing yourself." Its like every chapter (which are these small, bite sized nuggets of wisdom) there was some new insight or internal discussion that I feel has made me more attuned to myself and giving me a light to see where I am going. I can't wait until she writes another book.

I underlined things to note later and got a really good idea for my next tattoo, but aside from some one liners and a few "ah ha" moments, I wanted to like this book more than I did. Not saying it was bad; it's just not my usual cup of tea.

This was a really fun and uplifting read! A bit deeper on the new agey spectrum than I'm used to, but once I got into it I really enjoyed it. I recommend it as part of a daily mindfulness ritual, for me that meant reading a passage or two every morning.

Rise Sister Rise helped me consider how I can better embrace my cyclical nature instead of constantly working against it (as capitalism requires). I've recommended this book to a few women in my life, and suspect I will continue to do so! I'll also keep it in my morning ritual rotation for years to come!
