it's boring, really. i completely lost interest halfway through. lots of talk of tits, my god. it's kinda cool how unstructured it is and all, like it's very dreamlike flow, and that's cool, but it's an idea that is being used to tell a half-assed story about this guy who i am not interested in. it kinda sounded as if he was trying to brag for having slept with like, 3 girls, but in an ironic way. this is kinda boring for me as a person. maybe this would've been cooler in the seventies

“When the time comes, everybody’s got to end up where they belong. Only me, I didn’t have a place to call my own. It’s like musical chairs.”

A little rough around the edges, and heavily influenced by Kerouac(i.e. On the Road), Hear the Wind Sing is Murakami's first ever novel. The novel tells the story from the perspective of an unnamed narrator as he writes down the events of the summer vacation of 1970 that he spent at his hometown on the seaside. The story introduces some of the most notable Murakami characters, like Rat and J, and introduces the setting of the J's bar which makes multiple appearances in the his writing. The book is the first part of the Rat series.

I think of Murakami as one if my comfort authors, but this book really fell flat for me. I feel like it was just existentialism inbetween descriptions of womens breasts and drinking beer. It felt very boring for me and I kept hoping that at the end itd get wrapped up and id understand why i was put through so much nothingness. The writing is wonderful and theres some excellent quotes however I wouldn’t recommend this be your first Murakami book.
