When I started: “this is getting odd.” When I finished: “what a sweet story.” It would be very difficult to not adore the children and caretakers in this novel. Lucy, Sal, Thalia, Aruthur and Linus were my favs. I loved the poem and the connection over the day the music died. So wholesome. ❤️

“Hate is loud, but I think you’ll learn that it’s because it’s only a few people shouting, desperate to be heard. You might not ever be able to change their minds, but so long as you remember you’re not alone, you will overcome.”

“We are who we are not because of our birthright, but of what we choose to do in this life. It can not be boiled down to black and white. Not when there is so much in between. You cannot say something is moral or immoral without understanding the nuances behind it.”

The House in the Cerulean Sea is incredible. It is a book about personal growth and found family. At the beginning of the book, Linus Baker is incredibly dull. He is obsessed with his job and strives to remain professional at all times. His only relationship is with his cat, and he doesn’t think he needs anyone else in his life. Then Linus is sent to an island to investigate an orphanage which houses a diverse group of magical children. There, all the walls he has built between himself and the world come tumbling down, leaving Linus a changed man. TJ Klune has succeeded in writing an absolutely beautiful book.
