Omegaverse sometimes have a bit of sexism because males are generally alphas, but this book went several steps further. Not only do the females in the pack hold no power, but Leila doesn’t even shift. At no point do we get her POV (or anyone’s) of her as a wolf. Then, when someone targets the pack, only the males in the family (and extended family) are ever included in planning, even though there is a new female deputy working to catch the person, and Leila is just as capable as her brothers. In Alpha’s Savior, it made sense that Hayley didn’t help because she was human. In this book, the author had an opportunity to write a strong, capable, wolf shifter heroine, and instead wrote a damsel in distress. Also, female wolves are called she-wolves (ugh) and male wolves are just called wolves. Sexism at its finest.
If you can put alll that aside, this still wasn’t the best in the series. I get that fated mates don’t need to fall in love, but these two actively avoided each other so we don’t get to see them together for more than a few hours in a few scenes before committing for life. Their avoidance was frustrating.

This story was intense with the emotions in the best ways!
Leila is such a strong FMC but she has such relatable traits too! Her insecurities and history of being treated as the 'pack princess' despite working as a doctor within the community make her very realistic. They also add emotional depth to the tumultuous relationship she is building with Marcus.
The push and pull between the grumpy bear shifter and Leila is phenomenally well played, especially with how it is interwoven into the overall storyline for the series.
I plan on reading the first book, as I started with this one, to get more of the founding story. I also can't wait to read about Rex's journey in the next book!

I was very thrilled to read this book for a tour because I love shifter romances and there was an added bonus of finding a new author. The Alpha's Inferno and Reece Barden did not disappoint. This angst filled romance kept me turning the pages. Leila realizes that Marcus and her are fated mates, but it can't be that easy. Marcus has some doubts and he doesn't want to complicate his job as sheriff by getting involved with the Alpha's daughter. However, Leila is just as stubborn as him and won't give up. I was glad for the dual POV so we could see what each one was feeling. This is a slow burn, but once they get together, it's

This is a very fast read. The bear shifter is the new guy in town and is mated to the alohas daughter, who is a wolf. There is tension of why they want to be together but he feels like they can’t. So good and lots of smexy stuff too.
