May contain spoilers!!
I enjoyed this mystery. It was a fast and simple read. The characters all had their own secrets and while it was difficult at times to keep up with all the names that were very similar the story had an overall appeal to it. Based in a Norwegian countryside The Indian Bride is quite depressing at times and does lack in some areas. Like what actually happened to his sister? Who actually was the killer? What smooth (bowling ball/ weight shaped object) could've been used? Who drove the car that sped past Gunther? So many unanswered questions.
Some of the characters were odd and had no personality.
The detective work was a shot in the dark.
Sample
The silence is shattered by the barking of a dog. The mother looks up from the sink and stares out of the window. The barking comes from deep in the dog's throat. All of its black, muscular body quivers with excitement.

-Krone strawberry ice cream
-"When you travel as fast as we do today the soul stays behind. Somewhere in the airport. It's probably in a pub somewhere, at the bottom of a glass. I had a whiskey before we left."
-could not imagine life without a dog
-There's no right decision here, only a choice between two difficult ones. It happens.
-She wondered what it would be like to die like that.
-If I have to have Kollberg put down, it will be the worst day of my life

Meh. Easy to read despite some of the violence. Just not a captivating ending.

I like these books but I think the translations are a bit clunky (at least I am assuming so). This has an unsettling ending, not really sure we got the right killer, but I guess that is real life.

What can I say? It's a page-turner. I only give it four stars because I liked Poona and she had a tragic ending. But if it wasn't for her death there wouldn't be book, right? Also, Inspector Sejer and Jacob are endearing characters.
