It was a good read. A well rounded fantasy adventure tale. The plot and characters were enjoyable. I enjoyed the creativity of the author in creating the various fantastical creatures.

Update (03/07/18): Need to Re-read this so I can read [b: The Griffin's Feather|35124025|The Griffin's Feather (Dragon Rider, #2)|Cornelia Funke|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1494648827s/35124025.jpg|56834363]
Dragons!! Do I need to say more? (Well, I do prefer the dragons from [b: How To Train Your Dragon|352262|How to Train Your Dragon (How to Train Your Dragon, #1)|Cressida Cowell|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1431930187s/352262.jpg|1484561])
It's generally speaking about Dragons; but it also has adventures, magic, and different creatures around the globe. Everything in this book I loved (If I remember correctly) and I can't wait to read the second one.

A simple yet cozy and lighthearted read. Dragon Rider follows a little kid, a cat creature, and a young dragon as they embark on a globe-trotting adventure to find a new home for the dragons, and meet various colorful characters along the way. The soft and lighthearted tone of this book, coupled with the eccentric characters, fantastical creatures, and whimsical elements our three main protagonists encounter gives this story a sense childlike fun, similar in vibe to a classic Disney or Don Bluth film. The length of this book is also generous for a middle grade novel, being a little over five-hundred pages long, so it keeps almost anyone who's reading it occupied for a good while, and it spite of this it doesn't really feel like the plot drags at all and actually justifies it's length.
Now keep in mind that while the overall feel and enjoyment of this book is excellent, the more literary elements like dialog, prose, and plot structure are fairly simple and par for the course for the middle grade genre, but they do their job and there's nothing blatantly flawed or distracting about these element; this is just something to keep in mind and isn't really a criticism. There actually aren't any obvious problems I can find in this book, it's just a fun read. Overall, this should be a good choice for kids who may want to read more long form middle grade stories, and a good choice for adults who just want to read a digestible, cozy, feel-good story.
