Too much twisted darkness and gore for me.
The author is skilled, and the story is interesting. It was just too much horror for my preference.

It got to the point where I've put some much time into the first book and this I just have to finish them now.
But the characters get more unlikeable and what little believability there was in the characters actions just get less and less, the development is ... Hopefully leading somewhere because at the moment it's just not great. It tries so hard to be something it just isn't because the writing style isn't great, the editing leaves in a lot of basic mistakes as well.
I'll read the third book because I've put time into the first two. But I'm just glad it's a trilogy and nothing more.

The Last Witch: Volume II follows the events of [b:The Last Witch: Volume One|44232017|The Last Witch Volume One|M.J. Lawrie|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1551709600l/44232017._SY75_.jpg|68763023]. It is a dark fantasy with romantic elements. There are many trigger warnings with many depictions of cruelty. It is told in first person fmc pov. I felt this book was equal part character and plot driven, and do note it is emotionally turbulent.
I enjoyed this sequel a lot more than the first. The characters felt a lot more consistent in this one and the writing and sequence of events didn't give me whiplash like the first one did. I think the character development was very well flushed in this one; we saw the mc and other characters spiral into madness as well as reconstruct themselves.
Minus 1 point for the use of this line: "I let out a breath I hadn’t realised I was holding and nod."
As with the first volume, I still noticed quite a few typo and grammatical errors in this. I can appreciate how hard authors work to put their material out there, but for me personally and I feel I speak for many other people it does get in the way of my enjoyment of a book if I am constantly noticing these errors (i.e. desert vs dessert type of errors). I am saying this while also accounting for the UK spelling being used vs US spelling.
