Just do yourself a favor and read 'You Were There Too.' Its the exact same story, just not in space and with better writing.

CHARACTERS: The characters were one-dimensional and unlikable. And in a confusing fashion, they're unknowable at the same time. You are given very little information, and therefore I struggled to care about anyone beyond Logan, and that was out of pity for the character.

WORLDBUILDING: the world-building was barely there for what had been marketed as a science fiction book.  There are allusions to spacecraft  and settlements, other planets, but nothing is fleshed out and is therefore wholly uninteresting.

Characters move to a spacecraft, to a room, to a bathroom, to a room.  Candidly, it is obvious that the "world building" is really just a shallow overlay clumsily placed upon something that previously existed in other media.

SMUT: It is in here, and there's a lot of it, but it honestly got to the point that it was actually repetitive and uninteresting.

MISC: The author makes the decision to write in first-person omniscient. It was not enjoyable nor did it add anything to the story.

HEA?:
no, the author attempts to be clever with an 'it was all a dream' ending. If you make it to the end, you might wish you hadn't.

Interesting idea, disappointing execution. The characters were pretty horrible, had a hard time rooting for anyone. Except maybe the FMC’s dad… he seems nice. Worst epilogue I’ve read in ages. Seemed to just add a cliffhanger where none was needed.

Ooooh, this one was a doozy!!!

Summary:
-I LOVE a good slow burn and big plot twists. (+4 stars)
-I HATE first-person omniscient writing. (-1 star)

I was hooked right away and read 3/4 of it super quick. Took me a while to actually finish - I got to a point where I wasn't at the edge of my seat anymore (little did I know, that part didn't last long), but once I got back to the book I finished the last quarter in one sitting.

The last few chapters had me SPINNING with plot twists that I seriously did not expect. Especially the last chapter. Really ended with a BANG.

My biggest complaint about this book is the perspective. It's ALL written from the MC's perspective, even the parts that were from the other MC. I was thoroughly confused about it - it was super weird. I really wish it was written with the MC's perspective during her parts, and switched to the other people during their parts. Would have made a lot more sense and made it more impactful (instead of weird) during those parts.

Um okay. So this was a good book. I really liked the romance/smut. The drama was juicy and entertaining.
like I knew they would get together but it was sooooooo fun to watch the back and forth drama unfold. Okay but I litterally lost all my thoughts in the last fucking 4 pages of the book. IT WAS ALL A DREAM???!?? why. Like bruh. I hate when mfs do that omg. I’m upset.
Lost .25 rating because of the ending.

First of all I want to thank the author, Karissa Kinword, for giving me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Second, WOW. I am blown away. This was refreshingly intellectual, interesting, funny, SEXY, and honestly, thought provoking. There were moments where Logan reacted in certain ways that triggered my PTSD revolving around men so definitely pay attention to the TRIGGER WARNINGS. Karissa mentions at the beginning of the book but even then the way she handled it all de-escalated the stress of it so that those particular scenes weren’t felt so harshly.

Her sex scenes were absolutely *chefs kiss * and I was so impressed by the way she wrote them stylistically.

The way she wrote the POV’s was also something I thought was really cool and added such a unique layer to the story.

Considering this is the authors debut novel… color me impressed. I am giving this book five out of five stars because I would consider this book similar to a slice of chocolate cake. Rich, decadent, and delicious.

Thanks again to the author and I can’t wait to follow along your author journey and read your future novels.
