Well, that was a very quick read.! I read this in a few hours this afternoon. I have really enjoyed previous books by Alex Sinclair so requesting this was a no brainer for me. But I have to say that was a bit disappointed this time round. It was a fast story with plenty of twists but it was just missing something for me. The main character of Grace was a bit annoying and parts did seem a bit repetitive.

Grace and John are celebrating their 5th wedding anniversary when John is killed in a hit and run. 6 weeks later Grace is not coping very well with the death of her husband and being a widow. Her best friend is trying her best to help but moving on is tough. There is a lot more to the story but without spoiling the story it is hard to say more.

If you want a quick read and like twisty stories then give it a go. It just wasn't as good as the authors previous books. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review.

"Tell Me No Lies" by Alex Sinclair starts as a love story but quickly becomes a psychological thriller that questions how well we really know those around us, especially those close to us. How well do you know your husband, wife, or significant other?

Leaving a dinner celebrating their 5th anniversary, John Dalton is a victim of a hit and run. He dies in the arms of his wife, Grace.

Desperate and grief stricken, Grace vows to figure out the meaning of John's last words to her. In doing so, she learns she did not know her husband at all. How much of her marriage was true?

I enjoyed the premise and much of the story. However, Grace's many of her actions were unbelievable and far fetched. The story did include an interesting and surprising twist which made the story worth finishing.

In the beginning of the novel, I sympathized with Grace. However, her actions made me stop rooting for her and just wanted to finish the book. I am glad I finished it and would read a different book by the author and have added one of his three other works to my "want to read" list on Goodreads.

It's John and Grace's wedding anniversary, they have been married for 5 years. They went out for dinner to celebrate, but when they leave the restaurant John is killed by a hit and run driver.
Grace is devastated... She thought she new the man that she married. Grace learns things about her husband that are unbelievable to her. She thought she knew her husband, but really she didn't know him at all..
As the story unravels it is easy to see where the plot line is.
Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this book.

It should have been the best night of their lives. Grace and John Dalton are out celebrating their fifth anniversary. After dinner, while walking back to their car, John receives a phone call and steps away from Grace. Surprisingly, he is hit by a speeding car and suddenly dies. Grace becomes overwhelmed with grief and depression. She struggles to accept the loss of her husband after just five years of marriage. When she finally decided to bury him and try to move on she starts to get very strange messages.

After his funeral Grace sees a lawyer who tells her that John had a one million dollar policy out on them and had a secret bank account. Grace is shocked because this is not the John she knew. They did not keep secrets from one another. At least that is what she thought.

While Grace seeps deeper into depression, she reluctantly begins to rely on her good friend, Jennifer. Before her husband’s death, Jennifer and Grace were inseparable. Now their relationship is quite strained. However, Jennifer does her best try to help Grace.

During most of the story, Grace is seen as a broken, depressed woman. I began to wonder more than once whether or not the story would change directions. As the story progressed, there were things about John that Grace was learning and, sadly, she realized that he definitely was not the man that she thought he was.

Tell Me No Lies was written from Grace’s first-person point of view. The story fluctuates between Then and Now, adding to the intrigue. This is because clues about John were slowly being delivered.

It was at this point in the story where it picked up to the degree that the suspense increased on several levels. It ceased to be just the story of Grace grieving. It is really hard to say more at this point in the review without giving spoilers so that others will not be able to enjoy this story. This book had a slow-boiling plot and believable characters, especially when Grace is forced to explore her own sanity. At some point the story started to reveal itself. But don’t be fooled, be prepared for a shocking conclusion. This is definitely a compelling read.

Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

This novel is touted as: An absolutely gripping psychological thriller!I wish publishers would stop doing this and over-hyping titles, especially those that are not gripping or thrilling. The main character, Grace, was whiny and weak and I hated her. I think her husband stood in front of that pickup, wanting to be run down, so he could get away from her.

This book is VERY repetitive, maddingly so, and took me on a very long and winding road, that seemed would never end and led to nowhere. The idea at the heart of the story is not an original one and since it’s a story that has been told before, the book itself needed to have something extra special in order to make it stand out from the others, and it didn't.

The dialog is stilted and the plot unbelievable. I read this to the end, in spite of almost giving up several times, but found the climax predictable and boring. The premise of the story was good but poorly executed, I have read books that have this story line, but the writing and anticipation factor was much better. The characters were frustrating and hard to empathise with, it felt like a chore to pick it up and read.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Alex Sinclair for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an impartial review; all opinions are my own.

The book had the makings of a great read but for some reason I found it a bit of a trudge. I nearly gave up on it a third of the way in but I was glad I hung in there as it improved. Good read but not as good in my opinion as his other books The Day I Lost You and The Last Thing I saw. That being said there are some good if improbable twists at the end

I was really excited to read this book, it is not as fast paced as his previous book. This is a really slow burner and it definitely needs to be because you have so much information, and doubt to be formed in your mind for this to play out. Following the weeks after Grace loses her husband John, and dealing with her loss, whilst at the same time learning of the last day they spent together.

We open to the happy couple walking home from the dinner, Grace with a takeaway coffee, John slightly distracted on the phone and BAM he is knocked down by a hit and run! Well hello, that was quite a devasting way to start a book!

Life as Grace knows it unravels. Secrets unravelled but not just John’s, we learn that Grace to has secrets that she had been keeping from us, the happy little life we thought she had was not necessarily true.

And then BAM again! That ending! Before I had a chance to get my head around it, it was over! Seriously! What are you doing to me!! How did we get to A – B? I was blind sighted and it was over so quickly. I still can’t get my head round A-B?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!? The actions and reasonings, I mean MAN!!!!! I had my own theories going on, but I didn’t come close this time with this time!

Again, Alex somehow has got into a woman’s psyche and depicted her in a way where I thought I would probably act! Ok, some of her actions annoyed the hell out of me in the “then” chapters as I don’t think I would have acted like it, I think I would questioning everything not playing the happy dutiful wife, but then I don’t know when to stop! But in the “now” chapters, I probably would act as she had, maybe with the same amount of crazy town.

I don’t think this book is as strong as The Day I lost you, (that was one intense OMFG journey!) but I still found myself flitting through the pages at such speed to find out what was going on and whether Grace was really just crazy! I still loved reading this book, because I love Alex’s writing! I could lose myself in his books and never get bored.

When I read the synopsis of this book I thought it had all the makings for a great psychological thriller. “Tell Me No Lies” by Alex Sinclair tells the story of Grace from two different perspectives- on her fifth wedding anniversary to John when he is killed by a hit and run driver and six weeks after his death when strange things start happening to her.

I really thought this book had great potential. The story about a grieving widow who thinks she sees her deceased husband, she receives mysterious phone calls, and someone seems to be watching her. Then she finds some information about her husband’s past she wasn’t aware of. Will she be able to figure out what’s going on or is she just crazy like her best friend suspects. Sounds like the perfect thriller, but the problem with this book was that it just didn’t move fast enough or at all at times. When we finally got to the end it just felt rushed and honestly there really wasn’t enough closure or follow up for me.

I was hoping for a psychological thriller that I just couldn’t put down because I needed to know what would happen next, but I didn’t put it down just so I could move onto my next book.

Told in two time lines Tell Me No Lies follows the story of a couple who is celebrating their 5th wedding anniversary. Half the story being told from the day of the anniversary and the other half being told from 6 weeks after.

While parts of the story are quite intriguing and gripping I did find the book could be quite repetitive at times repeating the same thing over and over. I know part of this was due to the main characters mental state but felt there may have been better ways to indicate her state.

The other thing that I found a little difficult with the book was despite the book being placed in Portland USA, it was obvious the Author was from Australia. Some of the language was clearly not American, such as calling the doctor's office a surgery.

That being said despite thinking I knew what what was happening throughout the book and it dragging a bit, I did find a few surprising twists at the end and was happy at the ending.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinions and review.
